"Why is Your Wedding on a Friday?"

My mom wants me to change my wedding date to Saturday the 26, because she thinks people won't come. I understand her thinking but if I change the day I will need to find a new venue and we won't get married on our anniversary. She said "People won't have the time to get home from work and make it to your wedding in time." I don't think it will be a problem because the wedding won't start until 7:30pm. What do you think?

I think that is ridiculous!! Get married on your anniversary! People will come!!

The whole point of save the dates and stuff is so people can plan ahead to get time off of work if they need to. 7:30 is a completely reasonable time! I say get married on your anniversary in the venue you really love!!

Worse case scenario: you have a few less people to feed/favors to buy/programs to make

Seriously though =] We got married on our anniversary and it made it all the more special. Don't change anything unless you want to!!

I agree!! my cousins wedding was on a Friday and there were plenty people there. And so many at the reception was almost standing room only. Not going against your mom. But Friday will be great and people will come. But you should send out save the dates so your guess can perpare.

Stick to your guns!  It's your wedding, not your mother's.  Have it whenever you want.

Omgggg, I get that all the time too!! Everyone always ask me, "Why on sunday?" I am getting married on a sunday AND it's because t'll be on our 5th year anniversary!

Don't let your mom try and talk you out of your wedding date. People will come and they will have fun! It's a wedding, everyone always have fun at weddings. No matter what day of the week it is!!! :)

my mom did the same thing, of course it wasn' t our anniversary (which I think is super sweet), we just WANTED a friday. We enjoyed our weekend mini-moon and he went back to work. He's saving that vacation time for the 'big' trip.
Nearly everyone we invited showed up and had a ball! Don't change it!

i agree wtih everyone else! STDs gave people pleanty of time to take a half-day from work if they needed to, but being at 730pm, i dont see why they couldnt work a full day anyway! i think its a moms job to drive their daughters utterly insane prior to the wedding. i actually love friday weddings because it makes friday go by soo much faster! it gives you something to look forward to after work, and it doesnt cut your weekend up, you still have saturday to recover, and sunday to get stuff done! deffinatly dont change it.

We got married on a Friday, at 6:30, in a town just north of Houston (which is the 4th largest City and the worlds worst traffic) Which means that they had to sit in rush hour traffic to attend.

Let me tell you, we only had 1 no show.... :) Dont worry about it being on a Friday, people will come! :)

By best friend got married on a Friday. First of all... EVERYONE CAME! Only two people that were invited didn't come. There were 180ish people! Get married whenever it makes you happy! It is your day!!!! And bonus (as ellewinfrey said) Fridays are generally cheaper!

There are more and more weddings on a Friday now than ever. Its very European. Almost all of my friends in Europe got married on a friday lol but less so in north America. People dont like change. Evetually the prices on a Friday will eb the same as a weekend because of how common it is becoming.

I’m not going to lie, I think its probably more inconvenient for some people and not everyone schedule can accommodate a weekday as well as getting ready etc…I would assume that a lot of people would probably go straight from work so hair, makeup and fancy dresses would be at a minimal lol….my friend did that and it wasn’t quite as black tie as she had hoped but she knew not to expect it.

But at the end of the day I would do whatever I could to get there and be there for a wedding that was invited to. People have time to make the arrangements and who wants to be there will be. I’m sure your mom is just trying to make sure you wont regret doing it that way and she will be fine. It will be a prefect wedding and you will all love it.

PLUS as an added bonus you (and your guests) get 2 whole days on chill relaxed weekend days afterwards WOOOHOOO

REALLY!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? People are usually MORE than happy to skip out of work a little early on a Friday, and it's not like it's early so it's not even totally necessary for most.... PLUS you are not monopolizing their entire weekend..... The thing about saturday weddings is they usually monopolize that day AND the next day for those nursing hangovers..... So really you're doing everyone a favor having it Friday!

Keep it on the day you want..... it's YOURS and YOURS DH's anniversary for the REST of your lives.... if you compromise you will forever think, WHY DIDN'T I KEEP IT ON THE 26TH, WHY DID I GIVE IN????

We had our wedding on a week day, and  the people that really wanted to be there made it. A couple had to leave earlier, but that was pretty much it. People are going to have to deal!!

We did a destination wedding on our 7th anniversary... July 4th which was a Wednesday. It worked out great & only a few people couldn't make it. I wouldn't change a thing. You'll remember it -- they won't. :-)

I was at a wedding on a Friday and I really didn't notice a difference. If they know the date ahead of time they can get off work to make it and the good part is they still have their entire weekend open afterward. Worst case scenario - some people miss the ceremony and make it to the reception if they can't get off work or you have fewer guests which is a little nicer to your wallet.
