Winter wedding

I am getting married January 4, 2014. We are trying our best to get things on sale.

Our current find is our picture frame guestbook. Online they range from 50-over 200$ We were walking around Michaels and found found on sale for 15$!

I am searching for ideas for decorating the church and the reception.

My plan is to go elegant and romantic. The bridesmaids are going to be wearing black (I havent decided on long or tea length), the groomesmen and my fiance will wear black tuxes with a black tie. I want red roses (I love the idea of a pop of red) I want my bridesmaids to have red and white roses and I want all red. I decided that our only alcohol will be wine and champagne because I feel that it is "classier" than any hard liquor and beer in the mix. For our reception we decided to have a buffet style. We will have our meat statios, vegetable stations, mashed potato bar, etc. For dessert we will be having our cake, an ice cream bar, we are doing a full chocolate bar (we were thinking tsll glasses of heart shaped Dove chocolates in a few different flavors, and other size glasses filled with things like chocolate covered coffee beans, etc.) Along with coffee and tea we decided to add a hot chocolate bar also with anassortment of things to use such a cinnoman, different flavors to add, etc.  Our venue is a beautiful country club called Valleybrook owned by Ron Jaworski. We have a ballroom and a back deck (it will be "zipped" up so we won't be cold!) The deck will havd 3 lit fireplaces. Above the fireplaces are tv's. We are thinking of maybe having a slideshow of pictures playing during the coctail hour starting from when we were babies and ending at the most recent pictures we have.

I am open to any ideas for decorating, etc. I do want a lot of candles and the lights to be a bit dim to add to the romantic feel.

I read your other post, but I should have read this first!  First of all, it sounds like you've got things in order for a romantic, elegant wedding, ESPECIALLY with the colors.  During this time of planning, the photo section of PW AND Pinterest can be your friends!  Also, we have two groups that you can join that focus on red and black weddings:

Red Wedding Group

Black Wedding Group

Hope this helps, and if you have any other questions, feel free to share!

Sounds like a wonderful romatic theme overall.

However, I would rethink the beer decision.  Not everyone likes wine and champagne, particularly male guests.  I have been to weddings where guests left very early when there was no beer/hard liquor available.  You can serve beer on tap rather than beer bottles to class it up a little.  Plus beer would probably be cheaper.

Since you are considering candles in your decor, be sure to hit the stores the day after Christmas since white and red candles should be on clearance everywhere.

Winter weddings can be very beautiful and create wonderful memories for years to come.  Here are some great reasons to consider a winter wedding.  First, the venues are already decorated with a lovely winter theme.  These themes provide a great backdrop for your celebration and can also save you money on flowers and other decorations. Another great reason is there are not many weddings during the winter so you will not have to worry about scheduling your wedding around friends' weddings.

Benefits of Winter Weddings

  • Spring is considered 'wedding season' and, as such, many wedding related items are at their prime pricing. Compare costs on everything from dresses to venues. Chances are, you will find yourself saving a significant amount of money by planning wisely, taking advantage of sales immediately following 'wedding season', and planning a winter wedding.

1) Certain theme weddings, such as Renaissance weddings, work better in the cooler months due to the weight of the period costuming.

2)  If you are planning to hold your wedding event on a tropical isle such as Hawaii, or even at Disney World in Florida, winter temperatures are much more suitable for a wedding. You can easily have your dream wedding on the beach in December and even come home with a tan as a bonus.

3)  A winter wedding itself can be very beautiful. A roaring fire and fur stoles adorning the bridesmaids can be particularly stunning. Long sleeved wedding gowns are unique, and you can be sure your groom will not wilt in his tuxedo. Menu and decorations for the reception can center around a winter wonderland. You could even hire a horse and sleigh to deliver up the wedding couple if you live in an area lucky enough to have snow.

You can also tie your wedding into a holiday theme with a Christmas Eve, New Years Day or Valentine's Day wedding.  Want your wedding on a three day weekend?  There is always Martin Luther King Day or President's Day weekend.

We are renewing this February and I am also having a hot cocoa bar with lots of fixings.

I love the fact that everything is so much less expensive at this time of year. I am also using a lot of winter decorations that are already onsale.

By using my community center Hall which is in a building from 1876 with Hard wood floors and a wide open space and a full kitchen with beatuiful grounds for photos I am saving a bundle. It is only $150 for a Full day rental from 7am to midnight.

So, I am not rushed nor do I have to SHARE spaces for photos like often happens at country clubs.

I could still get 5star catering here if I wanted.

@IdoAgain we are in college right now as we plan, I will be 20 when we get marrie dand he will be 23. This is a big part of the reason why we chose Januay! We are paying 57$ per person (plus tax & gratuity) for our reception at our country club. We have saved so much! Our DJ knocked down the price a couple hundred, also.
