Wood vs plastic Chiavari chairs?

So I asked our wedding coordinator in Mexico about cost for Chiavari chairs and he quoted me $15 for each wood chair and $6 for imitation plastic ones.  I didn't even KNOW they made imitation plastic ones!  Has anyone seen them?  Do they look the same?  Are they not worth it?  Or is this just a Mexican thing? :)

Plastic chivari chairs? Hmm, are you sure they are chivari and not folding chairs like these?

Nope, I asked for Chiavari and that's what he gave me.  I looked them up and found a few sites that sell them but I haven't actually seen them.

This is from Galasource:

Buy white, black, gold, silver, red, emerald green, mahogany, natural, and fruitwood chiavari chairs ideal for most weddings, ballrooms, banquet halls catered special events. These chiavari ballroom chairs are made of wood, metal, resin and steel reinforced resin some are designed to hold up to 500 pounds. Not only are these colored chairs strong, but they are stackable too.

Resin is the plastic...who knew?

I went to Dress My chair this weekend and they had both plastic and wood...you really can't tell the difference! One weighs a lot less.  But that's it and for the price, I would do the plastic.

Erica...thank you!  I just wanted to know if they looked fairly similar or if they looked tacky.  You just never know, you know?  Trust me, I'd much rather spend $6 per chair than $15!!! Not that I would pay the $15.  That's just ridiculous to me.

i saw the plastic ones in person the other day and i thought they looked really nice and would photograph well. FI was not so keen on them but if it's between $6 and $15 i'd go for plastic.

Our reception venue provided gold, plastic chivari chairs.  I think more tropical locations might use them due to humidty, etc.  We were in Hawaii and our reception room was open-air on one side.

The chairs looks nice and really, I couldn't tell the difference between wood ones painted gold (with a high, gloss kind of plastic-y paint) and these ones.  HTH!

Ladies, you are oh so helpful!  Thank you so much for making me feel more comfortable about the plastic chairs.  I never knew there were such things.  I thought Chiavari chairs just came in wood.  $6 per chair is definitely doable to make our reception look much sleeker.  Thanks a bunch!

nr92510--I KNOW!  $15 is crazy! But yeah, you should definitely look for the plastic chiavari chairs.  All the girls seem to be in agreement that you can't tell the difference...except of course for the weight.  That's ok with me!
