Work & Maternity Leave

I'm having so many issues/problems/sleepless nights in regards to my maternity leave.

Before I go into a detailed (& long) story, I wanted to find out how the other mama's are planning for their maternity leave.

I'd also like to hear stories from moms who have already been through their leave and how things went.

To be entirely honest, I'm not sure what I'm doing (or what paperwork I need to fill out).... My manager is also pregnant (we are due 1 day apart! LOL) and she told me that we can take 1 month before the baby is due, plus 6 weeks after the baby is due paid by our employer. Then we can take the 12 weeks paid by the state, and supplement our sick time with what is paid for by the state. Then our company offers 2 weeks paid vacation (to the entire company during Thanksgiving, and Christmas) that we are also taking advantage of. So, essentially, we will be paid 100% of our pay for the 5 months we will be taking off. And, I don't have to use any of my vacation time! : )

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I also live in CA : )

I work for a big company with great benies - I will be using what I have of vacation time, we get 2 weeks parental leave, plus FMLA and State Disability. I will most like have 3 or close to 4 months off. It will be hard going back to work but unfortunately I'll have to. Luckily I have a laptop at home for when we're overloaded so I'm hoping that can be used in my transition back to work. They are pretty flexible here though.

@DansMrs - I did that I only worked 12 hours a week and it was from home but I swear it made it easier then if I didn't have any contact for almost 4 months and then went back in.  About a month before my leave was up I also started going in 3 days a week for 4 hours BUT I brought my lil guy with me :) it was actually fun!  I brought him in and all the ladies got to love on him :)

Ugh, I feel like when it comes to L&D and maternity leave, Europe so has it right!

@Clips, That does not seem fair at all!  Do you have to share vacation times too?  Salary?  Makes no sense.  I would be making a big stink out of it.  I kinda understand why related people cannot work together in the same department but you two should still be treated as two individual professionals.

@Mrs.H Can you work from home prior to due date and take your month off after your baby gets here?  That way you have you five months w baby?
