I am defnitely on a mission to get in shape as much as possible for pregnancy. I have found that the BEST workout by far for cardio endurance, muscle strength, and definition is kickboxing classes. They are also so much fun to do! I was really into them right before the wedding and I swear my butt lifted 2 inches! I have never found a workout that gave me such great results and was so much fun. I fell off the gym wagon for a while and have been working out again, I'm finally ready to get back into those classes and I can't wait.

Im not working out any harder than usual, but Ive always been a regular at the gym so I probably do more than most. I workout about 5 times a week and I normally take the aerobic classes at my gym.

  • Monday - core central (class that uses dumbbells and a step, mix of cardio and strength) 45 mins, abs 15 mins

  • Tuesday - kickboxing 45 mins, abs 15 mins

  • Wednesday - step class 45 mins, abs 15 mins

  • Thursday - 24lift 60 mins of upper and lower body weightlifting using barbells and dumbbells, abs 15 mins

  • Friday - day off

  • Saturday - 24set - similar to core central but uses barbells too 45 min

  • Sunday - day off

I get to the gym around 4:30 and my classes dont start until 5, so I also do an additional 10-20 minutes of cardio either on the treadmil, eliptical or stairs.

odessa- I totally wanna take a cardio class, do you take it at 24hour fitness?

kelly-um, WOW!ive been doing yoga but probably cant keep it up, I have to drive over 30mins, and its $15 each time. were trying to save as much as possible, since DH will be the only income we have (in 2 years). are those classes at 24 hour? im always afraid to try, everyone looks likey they know what they are doing, and i dont lol

I go to a gold's gym..I've been thinking of trying out LA boxing for fun since they have the free week, they're everywhere.

The classes are always my favorite because you will stay the full time, no excuses.  Plus mixing it up and following the group makes the time go by so much faster than staring at the wall on a treadmill or something.

No one knows how to do it at first and it can feel really intimidating. But remember that no one is paying attention to what you're doing because they're too focused on what they're doing! Plus they all stumbled the first time too. For some reason, I can never get the moves down in regular aerobic classes but with the kickboxing stuff it clicks instantly for me and I can follow it perfectly. Something about the movements really work my muscles better too. I have also done spinning classes and I loved the workout they gave me, but they always bruise up my crotch! Yoga and pilates are fantastic too, a really good power yoga class will make me sweat more than a cardio class.

Jess- Yep, I go to 24 Hour Fitness (its actually where I met DH!). I was super nervous when I started taking the classes too, but everyone is at first I think. I started out standing in the back or even in the back corner and as I got more comfortable I moved closer to the front. Now I stand in the front row next to the teacher! And Odessa is right, no one is looking at you, they are too busy looking at themselves worrying that you are looking at them, lol.

The classes are included at my gym, so I just pay my regular gym dues each month no matter how much I go. If you are interested in keeping up with the yoga and would suggest joining a gym where the classes are free. $15 per class is a lot! I think at 24 Hour and Club Fitness (if you have those?) you can get week passes for free to see if you like it.

Oh yes Kelly is so right, definitely find a gym with free classes. That was you can try out different ones until you find the ones that work best for you.

The thing about people being too worried about themselves to notice you reminds me of a funny story. My husband and I love doing the cardio kickboxing classes together and the room has mirrors on all the walls. We like to do really silly things for each other in the mirror during the class to get each other to laugh. One day after class a woman came up to us and said that her favorite part of the class and reason she keeps coming back is to watch us act silly for each other, it cracked her up. I was so embarrassed!!! I never thought anyone else in the class noticed us at all. We're such dorks! I guess sometimes people do notice you....LOL but it's all good fun anyway

I don't have a set routine, but I am keeping pregnancy in mind as motivation to work out. I'd like to keep running through pregnancy. I know being overweight can make it harder to conceive, so I'm trying to stay fit to increase our chances.
