Wow! We just got an AWESOME deal for our anniversary!
Okay, so DH and I have been talking about what we're doing for our anniversary. Fortunately for me, it falls during Spring Break, and if DH is still at his job (unless he gets a job teaching), we will have three days to spend together to celebrate. So we decided to have a little getaway in Houston--we'd get a pretty good hotel, stay there, and just go different places in the downtown area. We went to Priceline to look at what we could get, and I said, "Let's try the 'Name Your Own Price' option." We did it once before and got an okay deal, so I made a bid for a 3 1/2 Star Plus hotel for $125 a night. I honestly thought they were going to come back and say that I didn't get it, because they said most hotels in that range accept around the $208 per night bid.
Next thing I know, as it's processing, I read the words, "Congratulations. We were able to upgrade you to a 4-star hotel in the Houston area for $125 a night." Yes, that's right, ladies, a 4 STAR HOTEL! I was simply blown away. So DH and I immediately went to the hotel's website, and it is GORGEOUS! Then, just for the heck of it, I decided to look up approximately what it would cost if we had gone through the hotel's reservation system, and I was even more shocked.
This place's best available rate for a deluxe king room (the lowest on the totem pole) is $269 a night, coming to a grand total for two nights (with taxes and such) at $629.46. What we're paying for two nights with taxes is $302.44. So yes, we're are paying less than HALF of the normal price. It is INSANE!
Oh, and I probably should have prefaced this by saying that I am in no way advertising for Priceline--I just had to share the wonderful news of this amazing deal that we got. DH and I are now even MORE excited about celebrating our first year together!
