All I'm craving is junk =(

Seriously - if I could eat fast-food every meal right now, I would.  While I have indulged in this craving some, I just don't feel like its the right thing for the baby and I am desperately trying to eat healthy, which is typically my non-pregnant MO.

I have managed to eat a ton of fruits, but vegetables and salads have become non-existent in my diet =(

What are you ladies having for dinner tonight?  I have zero imagination right now, but when I hear stuff, I want it....most commercials are for junk, so that is not helping and my DH is also not being helpful (he keeps offering hamburgers, made at home, but I hate that the meat has to be well cooked =( ).  He is trying, but it just isn't working....

HELP!

I feel like I went through a period like this at the end of my first trimester (when I began having an appetite again). I really had cravings for taco bell and chick-fillet... I did & still do cave into the craving every once in a while, but the ONLY thing that keeps me on track is ALWAYS bringing my breakfast & lunch to work & having a dinner menu set up & purchased on Sunday night for the week (at least 4 days worth). I honestly felt SO much better when I had everything set up already ahead of time. Otherwise, I would order food for lunch, or head to taco bell... My husband has made this quite the challenge, since he personally doesnt like having a pre-planned dinner menu, nor does he bring breakfast/lunch bags to work... So I really had to just get into my own groove of things, and now he at least is on board and is enjoying the fact that we always have something for dinner. We both work 8am - 6pm, so the last thing either one of us want to do is think of something to make for dinner (then agree upon it...), then go to the store, then have to cook it.

Also - something that has helped me tremendously was ALWAYS have fruit & veggies in the house, but making sure they look appetizing. I have this gorgeous wooden bowl on my counter top that is just FULL of yummy fruit (looks like something a tropical 5 star hotel would have set up). It looks so good every time I walk by, that I cant help but grab something. And with veggies, I try to cut everything up &/or put them in containers or baggies that I can just grab & munch on. Beats/carrots/snaps peas/cucumbers/etc. I also clean all my fruits & veggies when I unpack from the store/farmers market. It makes it just a little easier to just grab & go.

Hope this helps. Its getting into the routine & keeping it that is the tough part, but once you are IN it, you will feel so much more in control & sane, not to mention healthier.

I would say that is pretty normal...my appetite is finally coming back (full force!!) and I now find myself hungry all the time. Nothing satiates my hunger, and I will often crave really random things like McDonald's, tacos, donuts, milk tea with boba, etc. Very rarely is it something healthy.

I second what Mar said and try to stock my fridge/house with convenient, healthy food. Baby carrots, sliced apples with little peanut butter packets, cheese sticks and crackers, hummus and pretzels, etc. I try to stick to my meal plan but to be honest I might be halfway through making dinner and then have NO desire to eat what I made. It's definitely a struggle. At this point, if eating junk food actually means you will be able to keep something down, I would say indulge within reason :). I can't tell you how many times I have told my hubby "We need to stop eating out so much!" to which he responds "If it means you will actually eat and not feel miserable I say eat out all you want".

For dinner tonight I plan to make panko-crusted baked salmon with mango salsa and wild rice...fish is hit or miss with me so hopefully I feel up to eating it today :).

We have always pre-planned meals so that is not the issue. My appetite has been fine during the day. I'm nauseous between 3 PM and 9 PM so that has made dinners a challenge. I've only thrown up once at 6 weeks.....so it isn't a question of keeping it down, it's wanting to eat it in the first place.

Right now I'm eating about 8-10 apricots, 1lb of raspberries and 1 lb + of watermelon every day. We have spring mix lettuce and usually have a salad every night but at 8 weeks I couldn't eat it any more. We have artichokes, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots.....we almost always have these in the house and normally I love them....I haven't been able to eat them since 6 weeks. Peaches are my very favorite food in the whole world and I can't eat them either.

Wild caught salmon is hard to come by inexpensive and I don't eat farm raised salmon (that has been a personal rule for years) otherwise I'd be begging for your recipe dennys!

My hubby found a recipe for homemade Big Macs so we can control what is in them....I'll let you all know if it works.

Any other ideas? I grudgingly just made a bean and cheese burrito in a whole wheat tortilla to kill my craving for Taco Bell. It's helping but I would kill for some soft tacos (making tacos at home has not worked out well =/).

Honestly, you'll get over the dinner junk food craze... I was totally the same as you. In the beginning I was great! Then I think I over forced myself to eat healthy (juicing, salads, etc.), because once I had my appetite back, I really didnt want anything healthy at all. Dinner was especially difficult because I was so tired, that mostly i would eat what I could before falling asleep at 7pm. Salad was gross to me, as was anything healthy really... I still havent regained my desire to juice yet at 25wks. But I let myself eat what I felt like eating & then I was so bloated & constipated, that I was kinda forced back into my healthy ways. I think you are a-okay with your homemade big macs (sounds delicious actually). And the bean & cheese burrito isnt bad at all!!! Make yourself those soft tacos girl! Seriously, homemade anything is generally better than drivethru. As long as you are aware of what you are putting in your body & your limiting it to a certain extent, you are solid! I had in-n-out after not having it for YEARS, and it tasted so amazing to me, that I wanted it again a few days later - I actually ended up getting it 'protein-style' which is wrapped in lettuce not a bun & felt totally okay with no guilt after. But, really - convinenice was so much more important to me than health. I wanted to go to sleep, not cook!

Last night we had bbq chicken breast, zucchini with onions on top of quinuoa. It was amazing & healthy!

Tonight we are having salmon on top of brown rice with asperagus.

I also went through something similar and I have to say - it does pass!  There are times when I crave junk food now but NO way as much as I did.  At the start I caved and ate probably way too much rubbish but now I am back into salads like never before.

Making homemade burgers is a great idea - we did the same and used bagels instead of buns and made wedges instead of fries.  Another thing I loved was popcorn - it was also homemade and a great snack.

How about breaded fish?  Have you tried that?
