Car seats?

Which car seat do you have or are you planning on buying? If you already have one, what do you, or do you not, like about it?

DH and I were originally looking at the Graco Snugride 30. I love the idea of the Chicco Keyfit 30, but it doesn't seem to be avaliable in Canada. The Britax B-Ready is another I'm interested in, but I'm also having a hard time finding it. Any opinions on any of these?

I can't figure out how to edit my post, but I just realized I wrote Britax B-Ready instead of Britax B-Safe. Oops!

We had the Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP 30/30. It was awesome -we stopped using it a few months ago when Megan outgrew it (she was about 10 months old but she's a chunky monkey lol.) It has adjustable side impact protection and comes in a bunch of colours. Megan would fall asleep in it all the time. We had the Pois Grey. We had the stroller adapter and it easily fit in our Uppababy Vista. I've bought a few things from this site (I'm in Nova Scotia) including our bigger car seat and umbrella stroller -they only took a few days to arrive and it shipped from Toronto :) This site has so many great baby items and there are always great sales. A few colours are on sale now as well -the only downside is it's a bit heavy; toward the end of its use, DH was in charge of hauling Megan into restaurants ;) http://www.snugglebugz.ca/2012-primo-viaggio-sip-30-30.html

We have the Chico keyfit 30. So far, so good. The base has been really easy to install and move from car to car if needed. We did not get a stroller as we have a small car and new it would never fit. We plan on getting a small umbrella stroller to use instead.

I have noticed that LO gets really sweaty while in her car seat but its been 90-112 degrees here so I'm not sure if its to be expected but thought I'd bring it up.

We went with the uppaBaby Mesa car seat and Cruze stroller. I didnt' want a bulky travel system like my Sister had and I didn't want to buy 2 strollers, a snap n go and regular one for later when babe is bigger. The uppaBaby is pricier but I figured it's a car seat/stroller that we'll be able to use for baby #2 when the time comes. HTH, GL!

We also have the Chicco KeyFit 30. We love it and DS falls asleep in it every time. We got the City Mini GT stroller and purchased the infant car seat adapter separately to use them together. So far we are loving it! Everything works great together and all the different items were/are easy to install and use.

Do you have a store nearby where you can look at them and compare? That was super helpful for us!

We have the Graco Snugride 30 infant seat and the UppaBaby Vista stroller.  We didn't get an infant seat that could hold more weight because who can haul around a 35 or 40 lb baby in that thing?!?!  She is 19 lbs now and I'm struggling...

We are getting the Britax Advocate seat soon..bummer because its so damn hot here and at least for now I can take the seat in with me...I don't relish having to get her in and out of the seat, especially when it's in the 90's or 100's here in TX all summer :(

We went for the Maxi Cosi Cabriofix - it came with out UppaBaby Vista Stroller as part of a deal and has had really good write ups.  We've not used it yet but I do like the look of it and it's easy to use.

We've registered for the Graco Alano Classic Connect system; don't know if we'll get it, so just have to wait and see.

For the first few weeks/months we decided to do the Graco Snugride 35 LX plus the stroller frame. I chose that one because it was less bulky, had good features, and is the lightest in the market. But I'm not the greatest fan of lugging around a heavy car seat, so I see myself more often taking her out of it and putting her in a sling after she gets too heavy.

Thank you all! DH wants to just get the Graco but I'm hoping that one of the stores in Edmonton has more of a selection so we can compare them when we go there in a few weeks. I'm not sure how much we'll use a stroller right away, since LO is due January 1, and we live in a really cold area (-20 C is normal for winter), but we'll definitely look at that as well. I plan on baby-wearing as much as possible, so I'm hoping we won't have to carry the carseat everywhere, but weight is definitely something we are keeping in mind. :)

Ayla - Definitely consider the weight, especially if you won't have a stroller. I had also planned to babywear, but so far my LO hates it :-( I'm not giving up yet, but it has kind of put a damper on my plans for hands free daily life!

We got the britax travel system with the b-agile stroller and the b-safe car seat. So far we love them but the car seat definitely is a little on the heavy side. But it does feel safe and sturdy because of that. We only have to carry it to and from the car basically so it's not that big of a problem. We absolutely LOVE the b-agile stroller though!

Ayla, I didn't even think of that...our baby is also due in January so now I'm thinking we won't use a travel system that much. How long before baby can sit up in a regular stroller without the car seat attached? Did you all get an extra base for DH's car? Is it a pain to switch when taking another car?

We got the Safety 1st SleekRide LX Travel System. So many people have commented on how nice our carseat is and it's a pretty rugged. The only part of the stroller I don't like is, you are "behind" them the whole time. Like they can only face out (when not in the car seat) so you have to get infront of the stroller to look in and see their face (does that make sense? haha) Our other issue is Blake is so long, he's almost outgrown the carseat at 3 months (he's already 26") but that isn't something that is a problem with the maker of the carseat.

Jen - We got a base for each of our cars and it is super easy to use the car seat with either car. I'm very glad we got two bases! For our carseat, the base is the harder part to install, not the seat. The seat just clicks in!

Jen-  We borrowed a stroller from our neighbor when LO was 2 mo old. We laid it all the way back so it was at about the same incline as her bouncy chair. It also had a thing that went around her head to keep it from bopping around. You don't want them sitting up in a stroller (or anything else like a bumbo) until they are starting to sit on their own.

If both you and DH will be regularly driving LO around then I'd suggest getting two bases. For us, 99.9% of the time we take my car everhwere.  However, when LO was 3 months old my car broke down and DH came to get us. He easily took the base from my car and put it in his car so that we could drive to the shop.

Thank you for all the replies! We looked at both the Chicco Keyfit 22 (can't get the 30 in Canada) and the Graco Snugride 30. I liked the Chicco, but neither of us liked the stroller it came with (only way to get it here is with a travel system), so in the end we went with the Graco Snugride 30. :)
