Constipation.........................

Hi Ladies!

So I have always suffered with constipation, but now since I have been PG, it has only gotten worse!! :( I eat healthy...exercise...I have upped my water intake significantly...I even purchased some organic powdered fiber.............it has helped a little, but now my *TMI* stools are hard to pass and I am getting hemorrhoids as a result. :( What gives!? I am so uncomfortable and I don't know what else to do. I would rather not have to take a stool softener like Colace or anything....but I guess I might have to go that route. :/ Has anyone else had this problem??? Any advice????

TIA!!

Yes :( It was AWFUL for me. My Dr told me to take prenatals that do not contain iron since I have had IBS-C (IBS-Constipation) since I was a teen. For me, a steady intake of fruits/veggies, lots of water, lots of fiber (seriously lots!) & PRUNES helped me. I am a healthy eater also, but it seems like the thing that really gets me going is prunes. Water is really the only thing I drink besides my coffee in the morning (which also helps too, but ask your Dr about it, since some do not approve of coffee. Mine was okay with limiting to my one cup of joe per day). Also, you can see about getting a probiotic also... It helped me :)

Edit: I still deal with it, trust me... It doesnt go away, just gets easier to, aahhmmm.. Go.

@CheekyMar: It's awful!! My prenatals contain only about 13mg of iron...I was going to switch, but I didn't know if that was a high amount, even though it doesn't seem like it? I forgot to add- I even started taking a liquid probiotics too......I have even tried prune juice every day, but maybe I should try the actual food prunes? :/ Coffee sometimes helps, but I haven't had any since I found out I was PG, but one cup should be OK! I think I'll ask my doctor about that and start incorporating that into my daily drink intake...I'm such a worry wort...hence being PG with my first ;).... Thank you so much for your response!!

I feel for you, June...it is SO bad for me, too! :-(

It got a little better in my second trimester, and is getting more difficult again in my third trimester. The doctor told me the increased hormones in the first and third trimesters can make your digestion very sluggish. It has been by far my toughest symptom, and like you, I didn't want to take anything OTC even though the doc said Colace was fine! He did recommend flax seed as a natural assistant :-) I upped my intake just a tad and I think it has helped me a little!

Ugh it's the worst! Like msdl, I had it pretty bad in the first trimester and it eventually got better in the second, but now it's started to make a comeback in the third :( For me, since I have a serious sensitivity to caffeine, on the rare occasion I drink coffee, it has to be decaf and it can still sometimes help with that. Other than that, I just have to make sure I'm getting lots of fiber, fruits and veggies, and exercise. I know it's so frustrating, but hang in there! I hope it gets better for you soon.

murph: Thanks for the heads up!! Oh boy...I haven't even thought about that!!:( I think I will start incorporating one cup of coffee a day...Hopefully that will help a bit..at least for now... :)

msdl: There is flax seed in my fiber powder, so that's good!! I do hope it gets a little better for me in the second trimester...Oh the joys of pregnancy...hehe.

adamsapple: Yes, prune juice, but not the actual prunes. I have tried almost everything, except coffee....just because some doctors are on the fence about that one, but I am pretty desperate at this point, so maybe a little cofee could do me some good :)

futuremrs: Coffee seems to do the trick for a lot of ladies, so I think I will start having the occasional cup. I will definitely have to keep up on my healthy regimen every day! :)

**I am so sorry you ladies are suffering too... :(

I found coffee to be the best help for me. I'd only drink a cup ever 2-3 days and it really helped!
