Hospital tours

DH and I just went to ours last night and it was extremely informative and even exciting. My only regret is not doing this a bit sooner!  We're giving birth at a hospital that happens to also have a birth center.  Only certain OBs and midwives offer services at the birth center.  Unfortunately, the birth center is not an option for us bc our OB only delivers at the L&D rooms but I'm ok with this bc he does support natural childbirths.  Still, it would have been nice to deliver at the birth center.

So I recommend to all you ladies, regardless of how early you are in your pregnancy to start checking out the free hospital tours available to you.  It will also get your DH involved as you prepare for the big day : )

Yes I agree! We did ours early on and I thank my lucky stars we did bc it gave us time to switch obs/hospitals after not getting a good vibe from our hospital tour (its a great hospital but not what we envisioned). Btw you must be delivering at SLR! We were set to deliver there. I loved the class options. The best courses around! Interestingly I was dead set on delivering at the birth center but after touring it I don't know why but I changed my mind? My Old OB has privileges there but something told me not to go for it after the tour. Really Wierd of me. I think you'll do great in the regular room. What matters the most is a great OB respectful of your wishes.

Thanks Mare.  Yes, SLR and I'm happy with the hospital so far.  It does seem to be the only city hospital that is open to natural births and has the lowest c section rates.  Even if my OB can deliver at the birth center, it just seems unlikely given that there are only THREE rooms while there are about 12 L&D rooms.
