My baby boy is here!
I wanted to share that we welcomed our baby boy, Harrison into the world on March 17. My labor was fast and furious and started when I felt like I was having some mild gas pains at around 12:30. I got a couple of sharp ones and decided that I should call my midwife just to let her know. We chatted and we decided I would shower and try to nap, which I did but the cramps kept coming and I was unable to lay down. I was trying to time them but couldn't really and they felt totally and completely different than the contractions I felt with my daughter so I was convinced I just had horrible gas. After I had to breathe through one I called my midwife back (this was about 1:30) and she decided to come to our house and check me. She got here at 2pm and checked me (my daughter was napping this entire time - thank goodness!) and my baby was at +1 station and I was 6 cm dilated. We decided to go straight to the birth center, but she wanted a 20 or so minute head start. Within five minutes of her leaving I told my husband I wanted to leave right then and I would just walk around the block because I didn't not want to be driving if I was going to be in a lot of pain. So we left and arrived at the birth center at 2:45 - by that point I was feeling nauseous and had a little bit of the shakes so we went straight up to the birth room and I got into the tub. I labored there for a while but it was feeling overwhelming and my contractions were sharp and were right on top of each other. All three of my midwives were there at that point and they kept telling me that it was happening really fast and my cervix was changing so quickly and that my baby boy was so low that thats why it felt so overwhelming. One of them offered to check me again (this was probably at 3:45ish) because I was just not believing that it was happening this quickly - but it was.. I was at 9.5 cm, and moments after she checked me my water broke. I felt the need to push almost immediately with the next contraction so I got back into the water and pushed there for probably like 30 minutes, but I was relaxing between contractions too much so he was sliding back up. I got out and pushed on the bed for maybe 5 more contractions and he was out! He was born at 4:50 after about 4 hours of labor and only 2 hours of active labor. It was so quick that my body wasn't even able to get used to each part of labor before transitioning to the next which is why it was so so overwhelming and so incredibly intense. He weighed 8lbs 10oz and was 20 1/2 inches long - exactly the same length as his sister and 9 ozs heavier (she was born via c-section and the docs told me that had she been a couple of ounces less i would have been able to have her vaginally - so there!! hah). So here is my VBAC baby, born quickly and all natural and into my arms.
And with his big sister who absolutely adores him:
