Questions for New Moms - postpartum attire

What did you wear in the weeks after giving birth? Was there something in particular that was so comfortable that you couldnt live without? Also, how did you determain the sizing (since you are bigger than prepreggo and smaller than when you were pregnant)?

I would think Yoga pants would be the obvious choice, but were you too hot wearing pants at all? Right away, I would think a robe and nightgown would be my go to personally since that is what I currently feel comfortable in (I hate wearing pants right now at all). But I am not sure if wearing pants was more comfortable being that you most likely are wearing those big-ole pads or depends...

I wore comfy pants, ie sweats, yoga pants, etc (which I delivered in April and it was still cooler here.  Actually in the 5 days I was in the hospital, I saw rain, snow, and sunshine haha)  but I didnt want ANYTHING that would remotely possibly get close to my lady parts to cause rubbing because like you stated you're borderline wearing diapers like your baby and they put enough pressure on you.  Even if it had been warm, I dont know if I would have worn nightgowns because, as weird as this statement may sound, it was nice knowing I had pants on to help kind of keep everything in place.  All that stuff crammed in between your legs (especially if you tear you'll want to use the ice packs they give you) it gets kind of bulky and you feel like everything is going to fall out of place.

AuntTate - I was TOTALLY thinking that about "keeping everything in place" with wearing yoga/sweat pants.

The most bothersom part was wearing breif underwear. I'm a thong girl and felt so icky with the regular underwear and huge pad!

Around the house I wore yoga pants and nursing tanks - Really whatever felt good. My PP belly went away within 3 days or so and I was back to my pp weight by 5 days. However, I was not (and still not) back to my pp body. I continued to wear maternity jeans out of the house until 3 months pp when I told myself it was time to give them up. My pp pants are still a little snug but not too bad.

Ditto AuntTate on the pants holding everything in/together! I wore yoga pants every day for the first week home. Mostly for comfort, but also in small part because they pumped so much fluid into me in the hospital that I had some swelling in my legs and feet. I just felt better having everything on bottom covered up. I have started wearing shorts again in the last few days (8-9 days post partum). I have tried to be somewhat dressed every day because we are starting to get visitors, so yoga pants/nursing tanks/a light cardigan are perfect for that!

I bought pants a size larger than my normal size for comfort. I'm glad I did because my stomach has been a little tender and I have spent most of my time sitting/laying down. So nothing is rubbing or pinching :-) And to Jenn's point about briefs -- one of the very best things I did was buy some large full coverage undies at Walmart before the baby was born. They are just cheap underwear that I won't wear again, but they have been awesome. They have definitely helped hold everything together!

Dito the other ladies!

After Fabrice' birth I was wearing comfi yoga-pants and still some of my pregnancy pants. I didn't buy any extra stuff though. I was back to my normal pants pretty quick as my belly pretty much disappeared after birth. I was a lucky girl. Hopefully this time around it will be the same.

I wore maxi-dresses and comfy pants when possible, I didn't need the giant maxi-pads since I nearly bled to death in the hospital...I remember wearing my normal skinny jeans to one of her ped appts...and at my 6 week pp check, I was 7lbs under my pre-pregnancy weight.

I've just been wearing loose fitting clothes and some of my maternity clothes. We've had some hot days so I can't stand to be in tight pants yet! Comfort is key right now haha

I gave birth in June so I lived in maxi dresses. While I'm home I'm pretty much in my pjs all day lol.
