Welcome baby Carter!
Well after being 12 days late, my baby boy was finally born on July 13th! Thursday, they had me go in for an NST and ultrasound at the hospital to see how everything was since I was postdate and it turned out my fluid level was 5.8. They like it to be at least 7 and 5 was the cutoff, so they had me come in again on friday for a repeat test and my fluid had dropped to 3.6 so they ended up keeping me at the hospital to induce right away. They gave me cytotec to start contractions at about 3 pm and by 7pm I was dilated to 4cm and 80% effaced. Luckily my contractions were totally bearable and I was handling them very well. But by 11 pm, I was still only 4cm so they asked me if I wanted them to break my water to speed things up so I said yes. I knew the contractions would get way more intense so I was preparing myself for that but I had no idea how intense they would get... Once my water was broken, the very next contraction almost made me pass out. My water breaking basically made my pain level go from about a 3 to a 9. I knew I wouldn't be able to do this without an epidural. So I had my DH call the nurse to say I wanted the epidural because I couldn't even speak, I could only moan in pain and try to stay conscious. So the anastesiologist came in and got the epidural in and told me that it would kick in in about 5 to 10 minutes so that was comforting. But time went by and I noticed that my left side was numb but my right was not.. So I was feeling everything still in my right side and they tried having me lay on my right side to see if that would work but my right side was still not numb at all. So he had to come back in and take it out and put a new one in all over again :( that was so incredibly frustrating. But luckily that one worked and after that, my labor was AMAZING. I finally got to relax and that combined with my water breaking made me go from 4 cm to 9 in less than an hour! It was so awesome to hear the nurse tell me that. So they basically had me and DH sleep the rest of the night between my contractions and at 4 am, I was ready to start pushing. I did some practice pushes with the nurse and then a little before 5, they started setting everything up in the delivery room and we started really pushing and at 5:22 am, my baby Carter James was born! He was 8 pounds, 8 oz, 20 in. long, healthy and absolutely beautiful. I had a second degree tear but the pushing didn't even hurt at all with the epidural and I got him out so fast! The moment they laid him on my chest and I saw him was probably the best moment of my life. I'm so in love with this little guy!
