Nigerian wedding

let me intoduce u to the nigerian Marriage in Edo kingdom(Native law and cutom)

with more than 500 guests

When a young man sees a girl he would like to marry, he sends emissaries in the person of his parents and uncles to the girl´s family. His family brings Drinks and Kola nuts to  the girl´s family, The groom´s family is question as to what they want and the groom´s family mediator relays the answer to the brid´s family and inform her father and uncles of the interest of their son in their daughter. Kola nuts are shared to welcome them, and they drink the palm wine. The girl´s family will ask them to come back after some time. This allows the family time to ask their daughter about the man and to also start their own investigation of the family the young myn comes from. On the next appoined day, the groom´s family will go to the bride´s and present them gifts. The bride´s family will tell them what the bride´s price will be. It is on this day that i the date is set for the Native law and custom ceremony. The day of the Native law and custom is filled with pomp and pageantry.Everyone who is near and daer to the two families (freinds of friends, cusins of cusins, inlaws of inlaws) is invited either orally or in writing i say there is basicly no need to get a guestlist done. The bride´s home will be bustling with people preparing food and wine of all sorts. dance groups may also be invited. Canopies are set up and chairs are brought in. This is an evening affair(day befor the ceremony) and when the music begins, all roads will lead to the bride´s family haus because both family will be related in marriage.

The women of the bride´s family start singing songs and dancing as they usher in a series of brides (these colud be the bride´s sisters, friends and cusins)that are covered under a cloth. let me intoduce u photo 2840014-1let me intoduce u photo 2840014-2The groom is question if the covered bride is his chosen "flower" or not( to know how much he know his bride to be). He is not allowed to peak under the cloth and he better not choose the wrong bride or him and his family will be sent away.

The village spokeswoman demands money from the groom and his family. She comes to them before each "bride" is brought in to explain a series of "problems" that occur which prevent the brides from arriving, such as a tree falling and blocking the road, the car running out of fuel, etc. The grooms family must give the spokeswoman money if they want the bride to arrive safely and timely to the ceremony, finally the right bride arrives led by her bridesmaids to stand befor her father or The Head of the bride´s family and she is unveiled, but she is still not yet alllet me intoduce u photo 2840014-3the grooms father who then gives the bride to his son by counting her 7 times on his lap and henceforth assumes responsibility to ensure that the husband and his family will take good care of thier new wife. Then the Head of the Bride´s family call on the bride and bridegroom, and both of them move  forward and knee down before him for prayer and advice.let me intoduce u photo 2840014-4

The bride and groom then dance and are sprayed with money by family, friends and well wishers[one of my favoriteNigerian customs. Spraying celebrants with money ] Dancing the night away
