I'll go!

My name is Amanda, and I am getting my degree in Secondary English Education, with a minor in Theater Education.

I have loved reading for a long time! My most recent favorite is "The Perk of Being a Wallflower" which I have read too many times to count.

I sometimes need motivation to read "big kid books" as I spend so much of my time working with Young Adult literature, and trying to find the motivation to read more than that can be trying.

I am so happy to meet all of you, and excited to read with you!

Hi , I'm Steph!

Even though I majored in English Studies in university, I'm sad to confess I haven't read very much lately :( I guess work and wedding planning have definitely been big factors.

I love chick lit, and I JUST finished Emily Giffith's Something Borrowed and Something Blue which I loved. I work at a daycare, so children's lit is one of my favourite genres; Dr. Seuss (I read The Lorax and Green Eggs and Ham to the kids today!) and Robert Munsch are a couple of my favourite authors. PW's Book Club is my first and I'm looking forward to reading with all of you :)

Hello.  I'm Tiffany.

I have a certificate in Early Childhood Education and I'm working on my Bachelor's Degree in either English or Psychology.

I'm obsessed with books.  I haven't purchased a Nook or Kindle yet because I have a hard time giving up the feel of holding a book and the smell of the paper from the pages of a book.  I adore children's literature from picture books up to young adult novels.  I'll read just about anything.  My taste in books is very ecclectic.  One day I'll read Jane Austen and then the next day I'll pick up a book by Neil Gaiman.  I also love Shakespeare.

I used to be a member of a book club on another wedding website but it was very big so I'm excited to start one here on PW.  I hope we'll have a more intimate book club feel here.  Let's have a great time reading books and enjoying discussing them with each other.  :D

EDIT: I didn't put a favorite book because it's impossible to choose just one.

Hi everyone, I'm Jenn! :)

I have a Bachelor's degree in Writing Intensive English and I LOOOOOOVE to read. Which is why I haven't puchased a Nook or Kindle yet because I know I would go broke downloading and buying accessories, etc. :)

I tend to read random books rather than sticking to authors. I do love The Unbearable Lightness of Being, and The Secret Life of Bees. Like Starbux, I also love Shakespeare, his sonnets are my favorite.

Hello! I'm Lauren, and I'm a high school English and journalism teacher. I have BFAs in Graphic Design and Photography that I hardly use anymore, a BA in English, my M.Ed. in Secondary English Education, and I'm planning to return to school for my PhD in English. However, I still love just reading a good book without overanalyzing it, I promise!

I don't know if I can choose a favorite book (it's like asking a mother to chose a favorite child!) but many, many moons ago I wrote my undergrad thesis on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. I do adore that book :)

Hi, I'm Claire!

I left my corporate job for health reasons (read: migraines) last year before my wedding and I have begun a new career as a Petsitter/Dog Walker and I am an apprentice dog trainer.  I have been reading as long as I can remember - my mom used to take books away from me and MAKE me go outside to play!

Favorite book?  I'm not sure I understand the question!  LOL  Ummmm....yeah, can't put my finger on just one - I read sci-fi, fantasy, historical, biographies... you get the idea =)

Hi All.  I'm Marlissa.

I love books and reading.  My grandmother got me hooked on it at a young age.

As long as it's interesting, I'll read anything.  I love reading all kinds of genres.  My favorite book?  So hard to choose.

The last book I read was "One Day" by David Nicholls.  Loved it.

I read a lot of Jodi Picoult.  I can re-read "My Sisters Keeper" over and over and over again.

Zane is completely naughty and I became addicted with "Addicted".

As a youngster I remember thoroughly enjoying books like "The Other Side of Midnight" by Sidney Sheldon and "Go Ask Alice" by Anonymous.

It's hard for me to pick just one :)

On another note, I am so so upset by the disappearance of bookstores.  Like you Starbux, I love an actual book.  The smell.  The feel.  I can spend hours in a bookstore just hangin'.  I've ordered books off Amazon, but nothing beats being able to pick up a book. Thumbing through it.  Reading a chapter or two and then buying it.

DH hates that I have soo many books.  He's been dying to get me a kindle or iPad just so he can get rid of them.

Ok ladies, I think that's all for now.  So excited for the group

Hey! My name is Megan.

I have been a reader since forever (I attribute it to the fact that my mom used to read trash romance novels to me in the womb ;)

I can't pick just one favorite book there are soooo many. I am a huge fan of Isabelle Allende, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, David Sedaris, Tucker Max (tastless but damn funny), Jeannette Walls... The list can go on and on and on...

I look forward to reading and sharing with you ladies!!

Hi guys!  I'm Star, and I've been in love with books for most of my life.

My mother says that I learned to say mama, followed by book.  And that I would carry them around every where and beg her to read to me.

I enjoy a broad range of books from historical to sci-fi and even some "romance" (Dainelle Steel and Dorthea Benton Frank) which I blame my mother and grandmother for.  I also enjoy old Anne Rice novels, anything Forgotten Realms, George R.R. Martin (so excited for this Sunday when his series debuts on HBO!) just to name a very small few.

I'm super excited about this book club.  I've always wanted to join one, but never knew how to go about it or had the time.  YAY!  =)

Hi everyone! I just joined you - so happy to find this group! :)

I'm Andrea and I'm a sporadic reader. Meaning, I'll go through a phase where I'll read several books back-to-back, and then none for a couple of months (it kind of goes hand in hand with my crazy sleep/insomnia patterns, haha). The Kindle is making it easier for me to read more consistently - portability = readability for me!

I'm kind of a nonfiction junkie.

I like modern memoirs (I've read Eat, Pray, Love three times). Some of my faves, besides the obvious, are The Boy Who Fell Out of the Sky by Ken Dornstein and The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion. I enjoyed Elizabeth Gilbert's follow-up, Committed, but it wasn't as good as the first. And for a laugh, I liked Mennonite in a Little Black Dress by Rhoda Janzen.

I also love docu-books, like In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan and Freakonomics by Steven Levitt, and political commentary (I'm currently reading Righteous Indignation by Andrew Breitbart, but my interests run the ideological gamut, so I'm kind of all over the place with that!).

My fiction interests are all over the place as well, so I have a hard time picking something that matches my current mood. I like historical fiction (Philippa Gregory novels - like The Other Boleyn Girl - suck me right in!). The best fiction novel I've read in a LONG time (besides the Harry Potter series, haha) is A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini.

I have a (very old) Shakespeare anthology in my bedside table, and I crack it open a few times a month. I love it! It was my grandpa's, so it keeps me feeling close to him. :)

I'm looking forward to getting some good suggestions from you ladies!

Hi I'm Rebecca.  You can call me Yelp on the forum. :)  I am horrible at memorizing forumers' real names, just to warn you first so you don't get offended.

I've been a lurker here for a few weeks, and just waiting for your august book to join in on the discussions.  I'm a new mom and work full time, so I don't have time to "read". I do listen to audio books though.

My main interest is non-fiction, specifically related to psychology (huge fan of Steven Pinkers) or simple/fun physics and math (like Richard Feynman's books).  But I also enjoy good fictions.  I love Anne Rice's writing style and her vampire chronicles. The Kite Runner is probably my favorite fiction that I read in the past 2-3 years.

The book that changed my perpspective on life was "the unbearable lightness of being".

The most frequently read book is... Alice's Adventures in Wonderland/Thru the looking glass, believe it or not lol!  I can't get enough of the bizarre humor and I get more and more out of it the older I get.

Hi All!

My name is Sam, I majored in English for my B.A, with an emphasis in Early American Lit. I have always loved to read, I had to get glasses in 5th grade because of the strain on my eyes from constantly staring at a book!

I'll try anything that's good, I won a Kindle at work earlier this year and that has become a dangerous thing :)  My all time favorites are The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings by Tolkien, my Dad read them to me when I was younger and Tolkien has always been a special thing for my Daddy and I!

Nice to 'meet' all of you!

Hi everyone!

I'm Caitlin and I am a book NERD. I love everything and anything related to the written word. I am also anti-Kindle :)

I studied English Literature in university and I have been a big reader since I was little child. I was reading chapter books in kindergarten, I was quite ahead of my time... the first REAL book I read as a child was Little House in the Big Woods (part of the Little House on the Prairie series) and it's been one of my favourites ever since.
