got my dress. doesn't fit, poor material

Okay I just got my dress, it took a month to get here, and though the dress is okay I won’t be wearing it at my wedding. The dress is strapless with organza layers for the skirt. Overall the craftsmanship is decent. There’s a good amount of boning and the design is mostly similar to the photo though the skirt is way too poufy. But the quality of the organza is not that great. It feels stiff not soft and flowy like organza dresses I’ve tried on. As well even though I had my measurements taken by a professional seamstress the bust is too big which is an easy fix, but the waist, hips and thighs are way too tight. It’s a mermaid dress so I can’t sit in it comfortably. So even if I wanted to wear it I don’t know if a seamstress could let it out enough.

So because of the quality of material and fit I don’t feel beautiful in it. It’s an okay dress but okay isn’t good enough for my wedding day. The thing I’ve learned about the experience is that you need to “feel” good in your wedding dress. So if you order a dress online like this there is no way you will know how you feel in it. Even though the dress wasn’t a huge amount of money it is still $180 I could’ve put towards something else.

Overall I gave it a try and would not recommend going through the route of ordering a dress from China. I know some ladies here have had good luck but from my experience the risk is not worth it. i've emailed them to tell them the dress doesn't fit and if there is any refund i can get but they haven't responded. i'm not surprised. i will donate the dress to charity or try to sell it.

Caramel1123, I really think that your dress came out beautifully. I'm interested to see you in it. Your persistence really paid off, and even with the extra costs for it, I think you got a great deal.

Sorry Unplainjane, I hecka stole your thread - i feel bad. I'm going to post all the alterations in a new post. Lets talk about YOUR dress. I just posted pictures here because our dresses used the same material, and I'm really curious to see how yours turned out. :)

It really seems like Dressilyme doesn't understand how to make a mermaid dress. I know women like them to be nice and fitted, but you do need to be able to bend. I just looked, and it is interesting that they don't ask for knee and thigh measurements.

I know it doesn't help you, unplainjane, but for gals going forward, I would really suggest adding those measurements, adding an inch or two for the hips, thighs, and knees, and then possibly giving the measurement for length, like hips to where you want the flare to start, and then the top of flare to hem (accounting for heels and "poof"). I have to think that the mermaids are turning out so tight because they are working from pictures that makes it seem that's how they should be. It also seems like for the organza dresses, you have to specify for them to use the silk organza.

Unplainjane, I'm sorry that you're not happy with the dress. Donating it to charity or selling it seems like a great idea though (with the charity donating you can use the tax write off, at least) in case you don't get any refund. I'm hoping that ladies in the future can use the experience in a positive way and know what special instructions to give Dressilyme.

I've just ordered a mermaid dress from them and specifically gave them measurements for thigh and knee, and also added a little extra so it isn't too small. If it's too big I can always have it taken in :-)
