My baby has a heart murmur! :(

I posted this in the doggy forum too but I wanted to post it here too to get some more feedback...
So this morning I took my dog, Mongo to the vet for what I thought was just a visit to get a heartworm test and some heartworm medication. But as the vet was listening to him, I noticed she was taking a little while longer and had an almost puzzled look on her face. Well, she takes her stethscope off and says that my baby has a heart murmur, grade 2. My little guy will be two this summer and she said it's not very common for young dogs to have them b/c it's usually indicative of heart disease. I about had a panic attack, and found tears coming to my eyes. My dog is like my child - I love him to death and cannot imagine anything happening to him :( Please someone tell me their dog has a murmur and they are perfectly fine!

Don't worry, having a heart murmur isn't a big deal really.  None of my pets have one, but I was born with a heart murmur and a mitral valve prolapse and I am fine!  :)

Thanks, Allie :) I'm a nurse and I know a LOT of my patients have heart murmurs. the vet just seemed concerned because he didn't have it when he was born, and that's its showing up now. He's been really lethargic and just wanting to sleep a lot lately but I just associated it to us moving and him being stressed out. Hopefully that's all it is.
