Decorating Ideas for Renters

Man I am so jealous of all you ladies who have beautiful homes that can be your canvas. I cannot wait until my FI and I can buy a house and settle down. Until then I am renting.Unfortunately have to stick with white walls. What are some cute ways that I can decorate and not break the artistically constricting rules of the lease? Methods that are also cost effective would be most helpful as well?

I rent and it sucks not being able to paint.  I have lots of pics on the wall, though.  As long as you buy some Spackle and patch the holes before you move out, you should be good to decorate your walls with art!  I always find great stuff to hang on the walls at Ross and TJMaxx/Home Goods. :)  I also got some metal wall art at Bed, Bath & Beyond, and some sconces at Big Lots!  HTH! :)

Another thing you can do is get tons of colorful, decorative pillows... or hang colored curtains/panels on the windows!!

ditto allie! I rent, and have colorful rugs, throw pillows drapery, fabulous curtains but I am having a hard time with paintings I like.

You don't have to paint to make it look awesome!

I rent and I asked my landlord if we could paint. He said he was fine with it as long as we stayed pretty neutral so I chose a pretty grey for my office and a very pale blue for my guest room. We lucked out because our landlord had painted everything else in the house so we really don't have any white walla at all and dh and I love the colors he chose. Our last place was different so we bought a large area rug for the living room and added pops of color with throw pillows, curtains, pictures, and accessories.

3M has great products for hanging even heavy framed items, as long as your walls aren't the super flat cheap paint (the kind that peels off even with scotch tape on it!). Curtains can help a lot, and if there aren't curtain rods you can always find a way to tack them up (you just can't open and close them.) Good lighting is a plus, too--utilize lamps if the built-in lighting is terrible (although in my experience a lot of apartments don't have overhead lights in a lot of the rooms--just the kitchen and bathroom.)

I have to rent too (and move every 2-3 years) so while we're allowed to paint as long as we paint it back, that's not really something I want to spend time/money on.

I'm a HUGE fan of those decorative wall mural sticky clingy thingys. Yes, I believe that's the technical term. :) I found one at Home Goods that was branches and cherry blossoms and it changed the WHOLE look of our guest room! I don't have any pics (it was our last apartment), but it was easy, cheap, and I liked being able to just peel and toss when it came time to move!

Bones: You can change up the room whenever you get bored!
