Why January?

Just curious, why did you choose January for your wedding?

We initially wanted to have the wedding in March, but the Army had other plans for us. We needed to move the wedding up. FI is deployed until Dec, so we knew Jan was really the only time we could have the wedding (and have a really good chance that we would BOTH be able to attend). So we settled for a winter wedding :)

Hi!  There were a few reasons, a couple people have actually asked me this before, right after the "don't you know how cold it is going to be" question.  Yes, I realize that when it is winter, it tends to be cooler then summer....

  1. I didn't have a dream about fall/summer/spring wedding colors/themes etc.  Season is not that important to me.

  2. Vendors and reception hall discounts for the event being off season (MN Winter)

  3. FI and wedding party guys are all bigger people; so sitting around in 80+ degree weather would not be enjoyable.  I wantthem to be comfortable, and I realize I will be sweating no matter what the season.  FI was a fan of the winter idea.

  4. Easy to book (nothing we wanted was booked for our date, we just had to pick who to go with).

  5. Open calendars - people tend to have more availability in the winter, post-holidays - banking that people will be able to share in the party with us, and not have to worry about it being the 14th wedding during the summer.

Our wedding dayis the day before the 3 year anniversary of the day we met.  We wanted it the day of, but the church wouldn't allow sunday weddings.  Plus, it's nice here in January.  The air is a little colder and more comfortable.

We got engaged in October and originally started planning a June 09 wedding.  We soon realized that we both didn't have the time to make plans in November and December to make a summer wedding happen.  We decided that anytime between Thanksgiving and the end of January would be a good time for both families.  January 2 just made sense to us in the end.  I built my wedding around my dress and it is very fitting for a winter wedding in Wisconsin.  Finally, my sister got married on Dec 30, 2006 so we had a pretty good idea of how to plan for this time of year.

I gave my fiance the job of picking the date and he picked January 30th. I love the winter so i'm ok with it. Our 8 year anniversary is January 26th but that falls on a tuesday and we didn't think people would want to come out to a tuesday wedding so he picked the saturday after, the 30th. The reason why he picked this as our wedding date is because now we will just celebrate our -the day we met/started dating anniversary- and our wedding anniversary on the same day so he thinks he only has to get me one present. hahaha Nik hahaha. :)

flakeofsnow i totally am on board with you!  its so true. everything is open (knock on wood) no issues with dates as of yet. I was set on knee length dresses for the BM's and they were like it will be cold....i said you will be outside for 2 seconds. so i am not letting the cold weather change my dream wedding. ..not to be mean to them or anything. just an example of how things dont have to work around a date. :)

We decided to do janurary because of many symbolic reasons.

1. He just got back from iraq, but is still in germany. he will be back from germany  before i graduate from nursing school.

2. i graduate nursing in december, so wedding before graduating is too much!

3. we will finally be getting a house and settling down in janurary after i move all of my stuff from college in december to there.

4. we will have somewhere to go home to w/o him leaving after the wedding.

5. it is the beginning of our life "together" literally since ever!

And its different. I love the "why january" questions. i just say "WHY NOT!" lol
