Christmas time!

Do you decorate for just the two of you? Do you have stockings? Do you fill them for each other? Or do you still spend Christmas with family and do most of your Christmassy stuff elsewhere?

We have a tree that we put up last year, and I told DH I would like to get stockings because our apartment has a fireplace this year. We don't have a ton of money to spend on gifts but I want to put a few things in his stocking--I know he'll be happy if I put some chocolate covered cherries in there!

It's our first Christmas as a married couple so I'm kind of excited to establish some things for us!

That sounds so fun!!

:) I decorate! I probably would even if it was just me, actually. I get all excited about it, but DH sees it as more of a chore because he's the one that has to pack it away. (meanie.) This is our third Christmas living together, and we do the outside stuff, get a tree, do stockings, and I add a little bit every year. We open gifts together then go see family later that day. It sounds awful, but as the years pass I'd like to do more and more with just us.

And since we've been dating, we go see a light festival before Christmas!

We decorate our place :) This is also our third year living together for Christmas so we have a few traditions already together! This year I tried to make our home look a bit more "grown up" with some more modern holiday colors and fewer cutesy stuff that we've used in the past. We make it a habit to see some of the beautiful light displays around the city. AND the BEST part of Christmas morning is our big breakfast. We make everything from stuffed brioche french toast, eggs, bacon, etc. Even my doggy gets a special breakfast of scrambled eggs!

Can I come to your house for Christmas? DH doesn't do breakfast foods and I feel like a lardo cooking for myself.

DH and I love Christmas!  Granted I spearhead our holiday cheer, because when he was a bachelor he did NO decorating.

Outdoors we do lights, wreaths (we have 4 doors), doormats, etc.  Inside we do our tree, plus decorations in all our main floor rooms and then some decor in the upstairs hallway.  Our zoo puts on a huge light display every year (partners with the City), so this will be our second year checking that out.  This will be our first year to see The Christmas Carol together - the theatre company has used the same Scrooge for 20 years!  Hosting Christmas Eve at our house is becoming a tradition.  We spend a good chunk of Christmas day with my family, and Boxing Day (Dec 26th) with DH's family.

As for gifts, we come up with a $ amount to spend on each other for gifts, and in addition to that we do $50 for stocking gifts.  We buy our stocking chocolates together, but not too much since we buy a lot of chocolates from WS for our house.

And of course our dog gets a stocking full of treats, and this year an assortment of winter/Christmas themed toys (thanks Costco, for that gift pack!  LOL).

I definitely like establishing traditions, especially since I want some in place before we have kids.

I think it's a really good idea to establish traditions before having kids! Plus it's just one more part of establishing OUR family (apart from the families we grew up with.)

We are going to buy our tree this weekend!

Beyond putting up a tree and stockings, we don't decorate a whole lot.  Too much work. ;)
