When will you & dh try to conceive?
I am off BC now but wont try until a year or two.
We're thinking.. Let's see. We'll be 24 when we get married.
I say never.
FI says a couple years.
Once again, I say never.
Never or 5 years.
50/50 chance at this point.
lol!! I second lsjhik's thought.
well I'm off bc now I say in about 6 months
FI wants to wait until he's 30. I want to wait till I'm 30.... So it looks like 7-9 years.
We're waiting until we're more stable...
I know we'll never be *ready*, but with our income and lack of space in our place, we want to tackle these first (and gain a puppy or two) before we even think of TTC :)
We definitely want to be financially stable first, and I think that's going to take a few years. I'd like to be in a house--even if it's just renting a house. I do not want to have a baby while apartment hopping. And like Hammy said, puppies first! :)
Same as Carolina... we're both 24, so at least 5 years I'd say.
i'm with the 5 years to never. I don't know if i will ever be ready. to me it blows my mind when people are like yup we are going to TTC i don't get it because having a kid isn't something that i have really wanted. I think i will try out with a dog first and see how that goes.
I've had plenty of dogs, cats, etc. and I know we will make excellent parents. I want to have children (well, one really -that's enough for me) but I know that financially it would be impossible. My husband and I both came from childhoods where were weren't exactly poor (on welfare) but our mom's really struggled and we don't want that. I'm not even on an insurance plan so there is NO way to pay for any medical expenses until that changes (hopefully this fall).
I am soooooo tired of people telling me to hurry up or "you'll never be able to afford children, you just get by". Like I can "hurry up" the economic recovery of our country? I can force the recession to end and magically create a wealth of business so that I can pay for healthcare before I'm pregnant? (don't get me wrong, I get a yearly gyn check up but I pay cash for everything at the moment)
Shouldn't people applaud us for being responsible - even if we are coming into the game late? (he's 47, I'm 40)
I'm sick of it! I want to have a child but I'm not going to be stupid.
No, I agree with you. DH and I have said if we have kids, there are certain things we want to be able to do for them. For example, private school would be great. (We're in South Carolina, where our education motto is "Thank God for Mississippi.)
And yes, being able to make sure your child will have healthcare is a big deal! There's nothing wrong with wanting to provide for a family. There's a difference between getting by as in "can't take a vacation" and getting by as in "we need to go to a doctor but can't afford it."
We're thinking in 2-3 years. It won't be our most financially stable time, but we'd ideally like 2 children, and I've just always wanted to be a younger mom (23 now). A house first would be ideal, but with the amount of student loan debt we have between the two of us, we are willing to wait another 5-7 years for a home if it means paying down a huge chunk of that debt first.
Probably another 3 years. We are both 26 right now, and we got married a little over 2 years ago. I'm currently working while in graduate school, and DH and I bought our first home a year ago. Everyone's babies are all over Facebook, and I won't pretend that the first baby pangs aren't setting in, but I feel like I should at least have reliable health insurance before TTC!
