Our theme kind of evolved organically rather than us picking a theme. We had firm ideas of what we wanted and they've shaped the theme rather than the theme shaping them.

The ideas that led to the theme:

1. G was really, really keen on getting married in a castle (isn't that usually the girl's dream?) so we found ourselves a fabulous castle with a permanent marquee (with a huge Venetian chandelier and grand piano in one section and dancefloor for 200 and odd in the other). There are huge gardens with more fabulous (and crazy) photo locations than you can shake a stick at and (duh!) a big ole castle (the genuine Scottish article, no rebuilt/replica stuff here).

2. I'm a big fan of the Cittaslow/Slow Food movement, so our food and drink were going to be local as long as we could afford it and, thankfully, G's parents stepped in and offered to pay for the catering. So we're having fantastic local produce throughout the day from lamb so local it could have walked from the farm to wines made just the other side of the motorway (about 2 miles away).

3. You can't have a wedding in a Scottish castle without having a ceilidh. So that's that.

4. I have a very defined personal style, so your average off-the-rack wedding dress wasn't for me. So I'm having a corseted wedding dress with a big princess style skirt for day and 1950s style skirt for evening made for me by one of Scotland's best accessory designers (who also does a fabulous line in couture gowns). G's having his kilt made by one of Scotland's most famous modern kilt-makers, so equally fabulous in its own way.

5. Our photographer pointed out that his name couldn't be more Scottish unless it was completely unpronounceable by anyone who wasn't Scottish (which his surname is). He's Craig McBeath (pronounced McBeth) of McBeth Photography.

Anyway, I've rambled a bit, but all in all I realised that beyond being themed around "us" our wedding had a theme of "The Best of Scotland", so we're kind of running with it. Colour-wise we're going with blood red, pale green and ivory (to go with my great-aunt's garnets which I'm wearing as my wedding jewellery). Style-wise all the dresses will be 1950s style, but not necessarily all the same.

Back to why it's glamorous... Well, I'm glamorous, the castle and marquee are glamorous and my bridesmaids are fabulously, gothically glamorous too. What more could you ask for?

Ours is Old Hollywood meets Nature.  My fiance loves to fish and camp and I'm an actress.  We actually found a theater space at the local aviary that is set up to look like the out doors and the reception is in their glass domed roof atrium.  So we brought the outdoors in.  Which is what they would have done in Old Hollywood! lol!

Enchanted Forest with a Modern Twist!  Very floral but includes lots of modern accents (black metal trees), butterflies, and bling.  =)

Our theme is "simple" and for a dress I prefer Old Hollywood. (Rather than Cinderella going to the ball.)
