Ovarian ablation???

Has anyone had this done? Our dr presented us with this as an option today. We had 3 options the least favorite is IUI and the the second favorite is ovarian ablation and then ivf. Well since my insurance with cover the procedure and it'd be free I said lets do the surgery before we spend a lot of money on IVF. She said she would poke 16-18 little holes in each ovary and it would hopefully help me ovulate naturally but if not naturally then femara or clomid should help me ovulate then. And then if all else fails we would do IVF. The plus to this route is that my insurance covers a mini IUi with femara and clomid but not anything past that because it falls as infertility and not PCOS. We are hoping to have th surgery this Friday! We are praying that this option works for me!

Wow. I'm surprised your dr wants to go to surgery before trying other medicines. I have thin PCOS as well. My RE estimated I have at least 60 follicles in each ovary. my RE was very, very concerned about over stimulating me as well. I did 4 rounds of clomid with nothing. Then moved on to Gonal-F. They had me on a very low dose for as long as it took. Finally after 20 days 1 follicle responded then 1 more. We were able to trigger only stimulating 2 follicles and thank you G-D we are 11 weeks pregnant after almost a year of trying.
I'm sharing my story because there are so many more medicines and tests aside from clomid and fermara. Have they done an HSG to see if your tubes are open? If it was me I think I would want to try injectable medicines which are stronger and under monitoring your dr is able to see how you are responding before doing surgery.
Good luck with whatever you decide. Please feel free to pm me if you ever want to talk.
