Update: Clomid

So a few things have been going on with me. I started seeing a different OBGYN and I really like him. He did some blood work and said that my testorgoen levels were on the higher end, but not high. He also did an ultrasound to look at my overies and said that he saw no cycts. My past OBGYN said I had PCOS, this new Dr said that if I do, its VERY slight. The only sign of PCOS I have is irregular cycles.

He recommended Clomid. I have been on Metformin for the last 6 months and while it did regulate my cycles, I did not get preggers. I have been putting off taking Clomid for about a year (we have been TTC for 1.5 years). So  after speaking to him, I decided I am going to move ahead with the  Clomid.

So there any advice you ladies can give me about the Clomid?? I have heard nothing but bad things about it (IE: sickness and pain).

Just make sure you are monitored while taking clomid. You should have mid cycle bw and us to see how many follies you are producing. Also, if this cycle isn't successful make sure you have a cd3 us to check for cysts. Have you seen an RE? RE know a lot more about fertility vs most ob/gyn.

I'm currently taking 100mg of clomid for 7 days and this is my 2nd consecutive month, however, I took clomid for 3 months last year.  The only side effect I experience is a thin lining.  I was monitored on CD12 last month and my lining was 6.6 so my Dr. prescribed estrace and I had the IUI a few days later but I don't think it was enough time for it to thicken for implantation.  This round he is seeing me earlier to start the estrace.

Thank you Oct for your response. I am starting my 50mg's tomorrow morning. I am a little worried about because my cycle has been really light the last few months. I started on sunday but I considered it just spotting, so I am considering CD3 to be thursday (DR wants me to start on CD3), however, my period is already almost done. MYperiods normally only last 3-4 days anyway. Does this matter?

I should have mentioned that I take mine late in the evening before bed...not sure if it matters but for people that experience some side effects it may be better to take before bed.

My cycles have been very different the last 6 months.  My first cycle I spotted for 3 days then called them because they told me to consider CD1 full flow but she said since I'd been spotting for awhile to just come in for CD3...I ended up having full flow on the fourth day after spotting.  So now I just consider CD1 the first day I spot.   Also mine only lasts a few days now too when it used to last 7 days in the past.    Some dr. have you start clomid on day 3, 4 or 5 so I think that gives you some room for error.  I'm not sure why..but my RE has me take it for 7 days instead of 5 like my last dr.

How is your Dr. going to monitor you? CD21 bloodwork?  That's what my gyn did last year but cd21 bw always showed that I didn't O.  But then I read that with clomid sometimes you O later than usual.

Also, look into baby aspirin.  If you're not having ultrasound you won't know what your lining is at.  Clomid thinned mine too much for the last cycle to work but I've read baby aspirin helps with that but I'm not sure when/how much to take but you may want to look into it since it can't hurt.

Good luck!  Since we are right around the same time in our cycle hopefully we will both get our BFP this round!!! :)
