yes and no...

yes---> fh got laid off last year - so we had to move it a year

no---> we're still having the original wedding we intended on with the same vendors, not scaling anything back - just had to move it...

and we are having 2 weddings, one civil in hawaii (we're eloping) and the big grand affair august 2009 (this is the one we had to move due to fh's layoff)

thankfully not majorly. we have stable jobs and are continuing to save save save! our monthly expenses are low consdering we both take NYC transit to work. We only use the car once in a while on weekends for little errands or getaways.

however, since the economy sucks we were even less inclined to throw an elaborate black tie affair. we didnt want to really from the beginning, but the waning economy sealed the deal for us. makes no sense to blow tons of money when everyone around is kinda feeling the pinch. know what i mean?

it hasn't really changed our plans, but we're kind of thinking that fewer people from my side (back in the midwest) will be able to afford flights/hotels....who knows how much flights will be by next April!!

I think it's mostly changed our attitude on spending, but no actual spending since the bulk of our big money decisions were made around this time last year when the outlook wasn't so terrible.

But it's definitely affecting my thinking on our home situation. We've been waiting for a short sale to go through, and that's been frustrating. I just keep letting the fear of a possible huge recession get to me in thinking about buying a house, spending money, etc.

We haven't signed any contracts yet, but its concerning not knowing what it will be like in may 2009 and would like to wait a little longer, but it's also risky in our vendors booking up....

It has definitely affected our wedding! We have been sooo stressed out! My dad just confessed to me this weekend that he won’t be able to help us out with 30% of the wedding, which is about $15,000 because his business has been sooo bad due to the economy!( My dad is a Latin Music Promoter and does concerts which is EXTRA for everyone – so he’s definitely been affected too) I have been sooo bummed and cried a lot! I know my dad feels really bad since he’s your typical Mexican Man that wants to do it all and definitely help out since I’m his first daughter to get married. Our wedding is 10/4/08, and I know for sure we can’t come up with the money within 3 months. I’m giving myself until July 4th to come up with PLAN B.

Is it bad to postpone your wedding 3 months before? Any input of what family might think? Are Vendors usually ok with it? So many “what if’s” keep on popping up? Please help!

Oh, I'm so sorry claudmend!  Can you maybe try scaling things down a notch?  Or, there have been a few threads on here lately about moving dates, maybe you can pm the ladies and ask how their vendors took it?  Either way, good luck.

And yes, b-c of the economy and I don't want debt due to this, we are keeping our wedding super small when otherwise I would have had my dream wedding: Destination--Ireland. But, I'm still happy about what we are doing.
