How much for a DJ?

Hi ladies,

My FI and I are i nterviewing DJs and everytime we get a quote I almost fall over in shock. What is the average rate for a DJ in So Cal? What (if I may ask) have you or will you spend on a DJ? I want to know if my expectations are unrealistic.

Look into California Sounds (Tom Chandler). Also check out his reviews here on PDub. He was reasonable, under 1k. Good luck on your search!

I think it depends on what you want from your DJ (how many hours, how many set-ups, etc).  My cousin paid $1k for her DJ, I paid $1600 (but I had 2, an MC and DJ).

I'd say the average price for a DJ is $1,000. I'm paying around $700 for 4hours, a couple intelligent lights, and a DJ who MC's and does some day-of coordinating - just to make sure things run smoothly.

Good luck!

I agree average is about $1000 - 1500, which is what we are looking at.

we paid $2K but got a good deal because we bundled our lighting (Gobo, uplighting and pin spotting), chair rentals and DJ services into one, and it was a friday too so that helped!

This is a good question because I was just about to post the same.  I have a DJ in mind that I've been speaking to and he comes highly recommended, but he told me to tell him what my budget was and I have no idea.  I guess that I can maybe start with $750 and go from there????
