I have 125 on my list and havent gone thru it . Will narrow it down. The wedding and reception location will be together. I hope I can get an outside venue. Needs to be safe for all my guest. I dont know if I can hold it in east la. some people dont like seeing my man and I together. =(

Hi Elizabeth, congratulations on your engagement! $1500 is hard to do in L.A but I sure it can be done with a lot of research, help from friends and family & DIY projects. Unfortunately I can't be much help, but I did read about a wedding in Griffith Park that was 4K, I know that this is over your budge but perhaps reading about it may help & give you an idea of where to start. Here is the link to the wedding.

It would help if you would tell us how many people you want to invite because that is a big factor in the budget. Some things that people do to save money are- get married off season (Sept -March), on a Friday or Sunday, DIY flowers, use an ipod for music, buy a dress from ebay or from a sample sale, find a place that lets you bring your own catering, have only beer & wine and ask a friend to take you pictures-but it's better to pay a photographer, you don't want to end up with bad pictures -like you said this is your first & last wedding.

Since you are in L.A, you should check out The Wedding Outlet in Montebello- you don't need an appt.

The Wedding Outlet
1433 N. Montebello Blvd
Montebello, CA 90640

Pebbles also had a great selection of sample dresses, but you do need to make an appt. Pebbles Bridal 20855 Ventura Blvd #B Woodland Hills, CA

Good luck!

Hi Elizabeth,

Welcome to PW and Congrats on your engagement!

I agree with verdes $1500 will be hard to do, but with research and help from friends and family you may just be able to pull it off. There are tons of dresses being sold here check the classified section, weddingbee.com and ebay for great prices.

Have you thought about having your reception at a Moose lodge or Elks Club? I think they charge between $500-800 to rent the room, and maybe having just having a cocktail reception that has wine/beer and hors d'oeuvres.  Tell us what you want your theme to be and what exactly you want for your big day.  I'm sure the girls on this board will be able to help you come up with some better ideas.

$1500 seems really hard, but I'm sure you can make SOMETHING happen. It would more than likely involve something small and intimate or you can always go to Vegas.

Maybe you can have your reception at a nice restaurant with a patio?

hi elizabeth!!

congrats on your engagement! =)

i agree $1500 will be very difficult for an LA wedding, but i dont think its impossible. id love to help you brainstorm ideas. Where did you want to have it? and how many guests do you have.

i noticed you mentioned you were born and raised in east-los. i think there may be many budget friendly places in east-la. Also have you thought about having madrinas or padrinos help you w/ the costs?

i think some walmarts that have the super centers sell wedding cakes for super cheap. they probably won't be top notch- but i heard they are ok. =) just a thought. also, i got my cake cutter set from walmart for like $8, just FYI. (i like walmart, lol). they have a lot of little wedding decorations there.

A am a budget bride and continue to tighten it. My budget is $5000 but I have gotten down to $4300.

You should start looking at private communities club houses. Some rent to the public for cheap. Mine was $625 for five hours. It includes tables and chairs for eighty people. They also have a beautiful outside patio that overlooks their community lake. The original venue I was looking at was $2700.

My sister is cooking all the food. Chicken tacos, beans, rice, and chips and salsa. A friend of mine is also going to bring Ceviche as a gift. - My food is going to cost me $150. We are going to cook 8 whole chickens and shred them. We are buying our chips, salsa, flour and corn torillas from a local tortelliaria/store. We plan on feeding 80. My sister recently made the same menu for a memorial service and it turned out great.

Instead of a cake, we are doing cupcakes. We are going to make the tiers like a traditional cake - I found a great DIY project. - Stater Bros will do 90 cupcakes for $50. I recently ordered cupcakes their for another party from Staters and they were GREAT!

We are making all of our flower arrangements and centerpieces. We are using red and white roses only! We are ordering from a wholesale directly. We will be making 20 centerpieces, 2 brides made arrangments, 7 boutineers, and 5 corsages. We are buying all our glassware at the 99 cent store and Dollar Store. I found the same votive holders and vase their that I found at Michaels for 3x-4x the cost.

We are providing a 2 - Kegs and letting friends and family know they are welcome to bring anyother alcoholic beverage they want. - You can eliminate this expense and tell people to bring their own.

I have some extra added costs because I plan on having a very nice photographer but she gave me a killer deal. I am also having a kids table with a babysitter filled with art projects, board games, goody bags, coloring books....you get the idea.

My DJ I found at a local bar I attend. He is only charging me $225. Everywhere else I looked was 450-900.

I have tons more ideas and cost cutters so email me if you want. I can also send you my spreadsheet. I believe we could get you down into your budget. You just have to work hard!!!!!
