marriage license

FI and I went and did our marriage license application yesterday....It was much easier then I expected...

go to the county office, fill out a form, write a check for $70, come back an hour later and BAM!!!! your application is granted for 90 days!!!!

lukduck~ how long did you have to wait in line? Which county office did you go to? We have to go do ours and I was thinking of doing it this week or next.

Yay! We got ours last Friday!

Are you in LA, Cari? We went to the Beverly Hills office and didn't have to wait in line at all. It took them about 30 minutes to process our application though.

Has anyone had any experience in Orange County? I heard that the Santa Ana office isn't that bad.

(feels silly)

How soon should this be done? Our wedding is in late June and I haven't even thought about the marriage license yet. Ha! I'm guessing we should go to our county office in late May/ early June?

MrsTong - The licenses are good for 90 days, only. So, I'd plan accordingly around how soon you'd need one and before it would expire. :)

Once you apply for your marriage license you don't have to apply for one again, unless you don't get married within the 90 day period. Say you apply for yours in April, you will be good because your getting married in July. Then your done! :)

We went to the Van Nuys office we only waited a few minutes...they have several lines for different things, but they have people telling you which line to get into....We thought about going downtown...but didnt want to deal with the stress of parking and what not...

So, we waited in line a few minutes...maybe 5 or 10 and turned our paperwork in...went and got a Coffee Bean, came back an hour later and it was ready.

Thank you lukduck and aching! It must be so exciting to have them!

We will probably go to Van Nuys because it is much closer to us and with the price of gas these days... But it is great to have options. I can't wait, I am going to try to get FI to go tomorrow!

I used to go to Van Nuys for everything, Cari! Even the DMV! When I lived over by you, I always found it to be so dead over there for some reason.

Definitely check it out!

My FI and I have already signed up and filled out the application online and it'll be all ready (hopefully) for us to get it tomorrow!

It was wierd, we tried to do the application online, we tried both of our laptops and it wouldnt let us...it said that the date had to be within 15 days...so we decided to just go in...rather then chance an error....

lukduck, I believe it meant your application will be "online" in there datatbase for 15 days. So once you fill it out online and go into the Van Nuys office within that 15 day time period, your good. Then once you getyour actual license from them, it doesn't expire for 90 days. Good Luck! :)

Yes, get it like one or two months in advance that way you know it won't expire. I suggest making an appt. if you can.
Mrs Tong: the Santa Ana courthouse isn't bad at all...We went on a Friday afternoon and there were a few other couples there and one as even getting married, it was really cute. We didn't have an appt. but we waited for about 15 or so minutes. Try to make an appt. if you can and I believe they close at 4.

I was asking about the SA Courthouse, too. ;) We made an appointment, so we're good to go!
