Online Flower - Hydrangea

I'm planning a reception in May and in a Budget for flowers. I want dark blue Hydrangea for centerpieces. Has anyone order flowers online before? I live in L.A. and wondering if it's better/cheaper to go through online flowers or go to L.A. Flower Mart and buy it there?

MsGlamour sent me over there too, I was shocked at how amazing their prices were, free shipping with overnight delivery and they have soo many options as far as varieties and colors. They have a number of hydrangeas in many many colors. I have also heard that some ladies are getting really great deals through the flower mart too.

Also try http://fiftyflowers.com/ & 2Gflowers.com They offer a good deal for premade items too. I'm going to get all of the corsages and boutonnieres through them. Also proflowers has nice examples of blue hydrangae centerpeices.

I agree! FiftyFlowers.com. The specific orchid we want is not readily available in many areas, but fiftyflowers has them. Our florist says she uses them all the time as opposed to going to the SF flower mart for everything.

When I went to LA Flower District toward the end of July a stem of hydrangeas ranged from $7.50 - 8.00 a stem and it seems equivalent to the price of fifty flowers. I guess you have to factor in shipping vs. gas and also waking up super early!

I considered DIY flowers, but after helping my cousin with hers I realized I DEFINITELY wasn't willing to put in all that effort! If you have a friend or someone you know who's a florist with the supplies, then it would be pretty simple...but if you're a flower novice like my cousin and I were, keep in mind you'd have to deal with finding a location to keep the flowers watered for a few days, cut the stems and find tubs/pails to keep the flowers in, buy plant food, be able to transport the flowers, assemble the flower designs you want...the list goes on. (I think fiftyflowers.com has a good flower guide you can reference). And in the end, if your flowers don't end up like you wanted, you only have yourself to blame! =). I would just go through costco or the flower market downtown if you're looking for a bargain. At least with an actual florist, you can just go down there and tell them what you want and it's ready for pickup the morning of your wedding!

I'm using Cristina's flowers (www.cristinasflowers.com). Her prices are better than all the other quotes I've gotten from other florists.

CatandMark: You are absolutely right!!! I just helped friends of mine with their wedding. It was a great eye-opener for me. It was at the same location that we're having our wedding in August. I learned that flowers (even with our experience) were a huge time consumer. After all said and done, I'm glad that my arrangements are simple/modern and I'm especially relieved that we decided to hire a florist! We lucked out because my FMIL has been using our florist for years, getting an arrangement every week for her office and hires her for every party. With her close relationship with the florist, we were really able to negotiate with her.
