It's been a while since I lived in LA, but I've always loved Santa Monica's beach. Plus they have a pier and little carnival. I say wear something in a simple or no print. Don't steer away from your personal style. Maybe wear your favorite outfit/one that you feel most confident in. Maybe ask the fiance to offer suggestions.

Maybe you can find something a little north of Santa Monica (Malibu?) because it'll be more secluded - although that's assuming you don't want the crowds. If you're going to be at the Disney Hall and Union Station, it may be faster just to hop on the 110 South and hit up Redondo Beach/Torrance area for beaches instead of cutting across LA. Pending on traffic, of course.

If you want more open beach I always love Playa Del Rey. You could get some really cute pictures on the lifegaurd towers. If you want more cliffs and rocks I would head to Malibu. I also like the idea of Santa Monica pier. The amusement park would be great in the background.

For my beach pics I wore a white dress and FI wore khakis and I white top. We didn't want to be too matchy matchy. Pics in bio.

GL!

i think the walt disney concert hall and union station are great architectural places to go. for the beach, i would head to santa monica or the south bay (manhattan, hermosa, redondo). how long is the session? you might need to budget your time to include driving, traffic, etc.

i vote for wearing a dress of a solid color. =) that would look great in both a beach and more sculpted setting.

i've heard that the getty villas are gorgeous and a popular place for e-pics. you could do that and then go to the beach (malibu) since it's nearby. =)
