yacht weddings... yay or nay?

i feel like this is a shotgun wedding. we got engaged 2 weeks ago and didn't find out from my FMIL until this week when the wedding date was (chinese cultural thing)... and apparently, the ONLY date we can get married next summer is 6/7/08, as that's the only lucky date the fortune teller gave us. well, it's almost november and we have a fairly small budget... so needless to day, all the good spots are taken. SOOO... i'm actually considering a yacht wedding with electra cruises in OC. their larger yachts are pretty nice and the package prices seem great. never been on a yacht wedding before... anyone out there experienced it? let me know your thoughts.

right now, our only options are:

1. going over our budget and renting the reef restaurant's banquet room (they're booked for ceremonies already, so we'd have to find another location for that)

2. (luxury) yacht wedding

3. shanghai red's (unwanted cousin of reef restaurant), which is a little old looking and would need quite a bit of work (but has a great view!)

we're calling a few more venues tomorrow, but i doubt many/any will be available. so... let's take a poll! :-) thanks!

I think a yacht wedding would be really nice! I would be careful how many people you fit into the yacht, because it can get crowded sometimes. Let us know what you decide!

Also consider those who might get seasick. This is hard to figure out since most people have no idea until they're on a boat.

Too bad you don't have more date options, like maybe having it on 6/8/08? It's a Sunday, but things tend to be much cheaper and you're not having it on the most popular wedding day of the year.

I think a yacht wedding would be fantastic....Its elegant, and classy...and if its affordable yah!!! Plus, you wanted a beach wedding by the water..well..this way you would be on the water.

most people have been on a boat, so they would already know if they get seasick or not, but as added protection you could provide seasickness medication to those who might be unsure.

It sounds like you like the idea of a yacht as well..so I would say go with your gut girl!!!!

I think it would be awesome--very unique and memorable also. And if people get sea sick, have dramamine (sp?) as favors! :) Okay, so I kid a little bit, but it might not be a bad idea to have on board.

A yacht might not be so bad - I mean, it would make for lovely photos and all. When we went on the Queen Mary, I thought the views of the Long Beach Harbor around sunset were pretty nice. Actually, there are quite a few nice spots around Long Beach....how many people are you going to have?

I would agree to have some meds for people who get seasick. You don't want people to remember your wedding negatively!

I think a yacht wedding would be very unique, intimate, and memorable! Who wants to have a wedding like everyone else? I say go for it! :) It's not "not so bad", I think it's a really great choice!

Also... You should ask, but I think for a wedding cruise, a boat would tend to stay in the harbor or near shore. You may not have to worry about the sea-sickness thing at all, especially if it is a decent-sized boat.

The evening before our wedding in Tahoe we did a Lake Tahoe tour with 50 of our guests on a Catamaran (with sail). I had no idea it would turn out so well, but it really was an amazing experience. It just felt like a very intimate night with us all setting sail together in the late afternoon sun. It felt like we were all sharing an experience together. I know some of our friends were hesitant beforehand saying "I'm not sure I want to go on a boat for a couple hours..." But I will tell you that every single person told us what an amazing and fun time they had, how memorable it was, what a great choice it was, etc... There was beer/wine served too, so that may have helped, but... It was really great. I loved it! ;)

I say YAY!. I've done several cruises in the Marina and it is always fun and beautiful. Like the pp said if you are in the Marina or Harbo, I wouldn't worry about it. I've had several drunken nights when we did our cruises and I was always fine, and I am highly susceptible to sea sickness.

Give FantaSea Yachts and Yacht Club in Marina del Rey a call. That is where we are getting married next weekend. We wanted to be near the water and have an unique wedding. The cost is very reasonable for being all-inclusive. Good Luck!!
