does your tattoo have meaning?

And if so what is it?

I got a faerie on my back at the end of my first year of univeristy. I got it because to me faeries represent magic and supernatural which a lot of ppl believe to be impossible. I got it to remind myself to always believe in the impossible.

I only have one tattoo that really "means" something, after we got engaged my FI and I got XVIII on one side of our ring fingers and II on the other. The 18 is because both of our birthdays are on the 18th (mine Oct his March) and the 2 is for February 2nd the day we got engaged. All of my other tats represent a time in my life but don really mean anything symbolic.

My tattoo is of a love heart with flames coming up behind it and a black bird flying through the centre. It is on my right shoulder blade opposite my heart. It's meaning: My cousin who I was very close to developed a melonoma on her tattoo which was on her right shoulder blade. They didn't catch it in time and she passed away from complications it caused her. The black bird is my cousin watching over me and through to my heart, the love heart is the a symbol of the love I have for my family and friends and flames represent my passion for life and the fire inside me.

My brothers race and photo 1650985-1

My brothers race and we've always been a racing family, so I added their 'autographs' to my tattoo, but after a few years now - we aren't as close as we were and I'm regretting it.

Yes... both of them do. My first one on the front of my hip is a heart and dove. It represents my love for Jesus Christ. My second one (my tramp stamp) is a cherub angel that represents my Grandmother who is no longer with us... she is my Guardian Angel and I miss her daily! :D

This is sad, but only one of my tattoos has any special meaning. I have DD's name and date of birth with a tiny red heart on my ankle~ I'm sure you can figure out the significance. :) I'm planning on putting all my other children's names/dob's on my ankle too, so it ends up looking like an anklet.

The other tatts, well, there's a theme, I guess (each tatt represents a different style of ink: insect (ladybug), animal (seahorse), flower (you guessed it, flowers and leaves), mythology (faerie).  There's no big meaning about them, except the fact that I liked the enough to put them on my body.

Every tattoo I've ever gotten has been symbolic to me. And some appear very strange to most people..I litterally wear who I am on my right arm down to my fingers. Some are very personal but I'll spew aboutsome of them and maybe post pictures of them when I get home. My finger tat is a "kaplow" "kaboom" star..I got it to represent that I can handle any challenge with ease..Like snapping my finger at it..

I have the word sludgerock it means solid in the middle like  a rock..but always surrounded by sh*t..sludge. haha

4 bumble bees they represent each of my children..remind me to "bee" strong for them..

A jar of peter pan peanut butter..represents myhunger for life and that I never wanna grow up!!!

A trophy with plate on it that says "beat Ana" ..I was diagnosed anorexic when I was 15...obviously I'm not anymore..I won so I gave myself a trophy!

I have a weinersnitzle und beer representing that I grew up in Germany.

A tore up broken armed bear with a blue ribbon on it..Representing that I survived my childhood..yeah that. personal.

A triquetra. Mother. Daughter. Sister. the three continous roles in my lfe....

that's soo not all. No where near it..those are Some of the tats on my forearm. I didn't even make it to my shoulder..haha let alone the legs, other arm, and covered back...

I get somewhat small ones so that I have room to mark moments in my life later on..I will never get one covered..

Most of mine have specific meanings...

Mouse - between shoulder blades - To always stay young at heart.

Rose - thigh - My first and meant independence and the mile mark of turning 18.

Roses and Cross - ankle - Reminds me of my grandma.

Eye of Horus - left side of stomach - Soul Guardian (It was actually placed in the same position that the amulet itself would have been placed in Egyptian mummies.)

Aztec Butterfly - Lower back - My love of Pre-Columbian mythology and culture.

Payboy Bunny - right hip - To remind me to be confident with my body and that no matter what anyone says, I am beautiful. I used to have body confidence issues and this helped to over come what I thought of myself.

Soon to be:

Heart with angel wings wrapped around my wrist holding the heart with "Richard" on the inside of wrist where the wings start - bracelet - In memorial of my Uncle who was murdered when I was 13.

Every tattoo I've ever gotten has meaning. I didn't want to just walk into the tattoo shop flip through some flash on the wall and pick out something that would be on me for the rest of my life. They are all from different times in my life and what is special to me.... for example... I have a Hiano girl from my trip to Tahiti- Hiano is the local beer there... and since I recently went back, I'll be adding a solar eclipse to that tattoo in remebrance of the one I just got to see. I've got a book worm on my foot surrounded by different types of books...and anyone who knows me would understand that one. Probably the two that have the most meaning though are for loved ones... the one for my father and my grandmother. My dad's is a hammer because he was a drywall hanger and I actually took in his hammer and had a design made around that. My grandma's is based around the flowers she planted for me... bleeding hearts, which not a lot of people are familiar with...

I have a fair few, and they have all have meaning. Most are Buddhist insprired.

I have this on the inside of my upper left arm. "Om mani padme hum hri" in Tibetan script.

I have a fair photo 2203893-1

A Cambodian one on the other arm, same place.

A huge (half arm lenght ways) cherry blossom vine with a few butterflies flying about and lotuses intertwined with a 13th century Japanese zen poem (hard to explain, has to be seen)

I have a Thai tiger, with a Thai Buddhist prayer on my shoulder, and another Tibetan mantra also on my back.

That's the main ones. I don't have any good pictures of them (not important to me) I'll post them if I ever get them.

EDIT: I found a picture of my arm.

I have a fair photo 2203893-2

All of my tattoos have some sort of meaning to them...

my leg/foot are memorials to my grandfather and grandmother. my grandfather was in the navy so I have the anchor/pirate ship to represent that. There's a swallow carrying the anchor to represent his spirit. I also have a treasure chest in there for our various trips down the shore in which we would play at the arcades. I have a compass rose so that no matter what he's always there helping show me the way through life. The 2 koi symbolize him and my grandmother. Then it goes down to my foot in which I have a purple orchid which was my grandmother's favorite flower, surrounded by plumeria flowers which are my favorite flowers.
All of my tattoos photo 2761828-1

I also have a panda bear blowing bubbles on my hip for my grandmother.. her favorite animal was the panda and we called her grandma bubbles. =]
All of my tattoos photo 2761828-2

My mother and I recently got matching tattoos also. =] I'm sure you all recognize the symbol..

Three stars that has HPW underneath - left hip - got it for my sister after I nearly lost her in 2005.

Shooting star that says Fidei Saltus - Back right shoulder - Fidei Saltus means Leap of Faith which is my life mantra.  I don't believe in coinsidences or that things "just happen." Everything happens for a reason because it was meant to.

BRAVE - Back of neck - means what it says.  Things got real tough for a while and the only choice I had was to be brave. Plus, it's an Idina Menzel song.

A phoenix rising with flames with 1 Corinthians 10:13 over it - across back - this one had been in the works for YEARS.  There was about a 3-4 year span where I literally don't know how I got through it.  Everything possible was being thrown at me and I had to find a way to make it through. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says "God keeps his promise. He will not test you beyond your abilities. And when the day of the test comes, God will provide you with the strength to endure it and He will see you through."

I have a sparrow on each shoulder. One for my grandpa who was a bird watcher, and passed away in 2004. And the other because there's an old saying that when a sailor saw a sparrow they knew they were close to home because a sparrow never flys far from land. My cousin is like my sister and is currently serving in the Navy, as is my fiance.

My first and only tatt I got on my birthday last year-It has a deep meaning. I have a love of butterflies and to me they are a symbol of change and transistion. My ex fiance passed away last year on July 9th. He was in a car accident, he was hit by a Semi while talking to me on the phone. I was devastated and lost. Everytime I would think of him-butterflies would appear. They would follow me while walking, or would be around my window. Like they were trying to get my attention. Even now If I miss him and he is heavy on my mind some type of way an image of a butterfly or an actual butterfly appears.....So when I turned 35 last year, I decided to get a tattoo...A butterfly. Not only does it symbolize change and transistion. It also is a constant reminder of him...

If there was no change in life, we wouldnt have butterflies....

Memento Vivere: This is on my upper ribs near my bra. It means "Remember to live"....I think the name sums up what it means to me

Yes! I have a tattoo of a four leaf clover on my wrist.  We have a ton of birthdays in my family that around March 17th.  One of which was FI grandfather who passed away 3 years ago of lung cancer. Sooo, a few of us girls in the family got the clovers to remember him by :)
