Confused/Funny Story...

Okay, so.

I work 12 hour shifts, 7a-7p, and usually temp every morning at 5am. I have been using OPKs every morning since CD 12, and today is CD17. This morning I roll over and take my temp, and it has taken a crazy spike. Like from 96.7 to 98.2 crazy. I know FF requires 3 days of high temps to confirm O, but I feel pretty confident in assuming that I did yesterday.

I POAS immediately after taking my temperature and got my first smiley for this cycle. What the heck? I thought they were supposed to be positive the day before your O?

Anyway, we hadn't BD'd since CD14, so in a panic I go in and wake DH up. Poor soul. He didn't need to be up for two hours yet, but he was a trooper. Afterwards, while I was waiting to get up, we had this conversation:

Me: Sorry I had to wake you up early, sweetie. You're such a good sport.

DH: (singing) I work hard for the money! Dun da dunt!

And that is why I love my husband. Haha:D

So...has anyone ever had a +OPK the day after ovulation? Is it possible that I O'd last night without a positive OPK yesterday morning? And do you think by BDing this AM we caught it in time? This is all so tricky!

I'm no OPK expert, because I haven't used one yet.  However, from what I've read (and mentioned in the other post) is that I think you're catching the tail end of your surge.  Especially if you have high quality tests that are more sensitive.  This kind of thing may not happen often, but it doesn't seem uncommon.

I also read you're supposed to test, ideally, late morning and evening type thing.  So you could have been surging after yesterday morning's POAS and just didn't know till this morning.  Did you check your CM this morning?  That would be a good indication, I think, of how likely you would be to catch that egg.  Thinking positive thoughts for you and FX!

The impression I get from TCOYF is that OPK's can be a useful tool, but the best confirmation of O is temp & CM.

Kudos to you and DH for being so motivated ;-)  Hope you weren't late for work!

Ditto to the testing later in the day.  FMU is too concentrated to get an accurate read on the level of LH in your system.  I made the same mistake when I started using OPKs, too =)

Thanks, girls!

Claire, I had no idea FMU was bad for OPKs! I was just thinking I didn't want to test at work, but I guess if we don't get our BFP this cycle I'll be bringing them with me and testing at lunch time. Thanks:)

I've also heard it said that FMS (first morning sperm <- did I just make a new acronym? lol) is supposed to be, possibly, the most efficient/healthy/wtvr.  I don't think that's scientific, but I've read it in more than one book.  So IF you still stand a chance this cycle, at least you have the best of them trying :-)

I'm with you on the OPK thing at work.  I feel the same way, in our small public stalls bathroom at the office.  But you do what you have to do, I guess.

Too funny, Athena! FMS. Let's hope it's legit! Lol :D

Thanks for your input, Murph. Good to know we still have a shot:)

This is funny! ME, ME!! I tested with fmu the day after I had my temperature spike and received a positive! Ditto what the girls said....Ignore that positive. I think it would great if you could take your OPKS to work and start testing around lunch time, even though it isn't the ideal place per say hehe. That is of course if you don't get a BFP this cycle! ;)

What a trooper your DH is!! Well, and you too that early!! :) Good luck!!!
