Green Tea & Folic Acid

A co-worker gave me What to Expect Before You're Expecting (I'd recommend it for the "dad" boxes on about every other page, geared towards DH) and it said that Green Tea can cancel out the benefits of folic acid.  So basically it left me thinking that my Pre-Natals so far have been in vain, if my big cup of green tea in the morning is making it non-effective.  I was going to give up tea (except for some like raspberry leaf) closer to actively TTC, but I thought it was okay to have caffeine right now.  Never did I know about the folic acid repercussions, and here I've been taking prenatals for ~ 6 months.

I've also been using green tea as my daily vessel for coconut oil consumption, so I may have to find another way to sneak that in.

Has anyone else heard of this?

No, I haven't heard of that, but I was under the impression that up to 200mg of caffeine was allowed during TTC and pregnancy, which is about the amount in a cup of coffee. So wouldn't regular tea be fine? Or do I need to toss my coffee? Lol.

I can't find any good sources to footnote, but my Google search is saying green tea prevents the absorption of folic acid. I think I'll have my last green yea tonight; one last hoorah!

Thanks, Murph!
