let's chat about luteal phase (LP)

first off, goodness there are so many new things I am learning throughout this TTC process that I had no idea about before.

I've done some reading about the luteal phase but I'm getting conflicting answers about how long it 'should' be. some say 10, some say 12, some say 14. the only concrete thing I got was that <10 was no good.

last month i am guesstimating my LP was 9 or 10 days, and for this cycle I am ~0/1DPO today, with AF expected in 13 days.

I guess what I am wondering is if I should be concerned yet, seeing as this is only 2nd month TTC. I read that vitamin B6 is good to take, although I know its too late for this cycle.

so ladies, lets chat about what you know about LP!

edited to add: should also mention I have been taking prenatals since the beginning of this cycle. NatureMade multi prenatals

I hear you on the conflicting info!  I've heard that 12-14 is normal.  I've also heard 10-16 is normal and less than 10 is not good (and basically won't allow you to become PG).  Another catch is that even if you have a LP, say 12 days, is some people have a progesterone drop during the LP which isn't good either.

Are you temping? The only way to know when you exactly ovulate is by temping.  Once you know exactly when you ovulate, then you can determine your LP.

B6 is linked to helping LP's being lengthened as it helps with hormonal balance.  It doesn't matter about "missing" a cycle.  Start today or tomorrow!  The sooner you start getting it in your system the sooner it will start helping you.  If you think you really have challenges there are other natural supplements like Vitex (chasteberry), drinking raspberry leaf tea, vitamin C, etc that help with regulating hormones which ultimately help regulate the female cycle.  Also eat things like green leafy vegetables on a regular basis.

Good luck!

I cant believe this: still more to know about getting pregnant? Wow. Its a wonder that some people cant be bothered about stuff like this, and still pop buns out of the oven like nothing doing..

@athena thanks for the info! I just purchased a BBT online yesterday and will start with it next cycle (unless i don't have too...)

This month was only our 2nd TTC. I am hardly organized enough to remember when to POAS with the OPK's. Hubbs and I agreed we'd sort of be trying for ~3 months then really "get into it" after that if it doesn't happen.

I'm thinking I'll start with the B6 next week too, just in case! I'm generally a very healthy eater so I know I'm getting the right nutrients.

@nenyibabs: i know, right?? I know so many  people who 'accidently' or 'surprising' get PG. I can't even believe it! Makes me think I shoud drop all this nonsense and see what happens..

Make sure you are getting at least 50 mg of B6, but 100 mg is better.  If you can take a lower dose a few times a day its better because your body has a better chance of absorbing more of it over all.....

I actually took 25mg 3x a day after getting PG because it was supposed to help with m/s - for me it didn't help at all.  Only sipping gingerale from about 3pm to bedtime and then off and on during the night when I would wake up helped with m/s (which was in the afternoon/evening for me).

Ditto Athena and Claire 100%. I started taking B6 after my first two cycles I had a 10 day LP. Now I'm more 10-13 day LP. I think anything under 10 is low.

@PSA: Maybe you need to get some vitamin B6. About the charting, are you doing it consistently, as soon as you wake up? also, do you wake up at different times every morning? I hear such things count.

@Nenybabs, yes I do it every morning at 1:30 a.m. as soon as I get up. I take a prenatal & folic acid, & eat a lot of veggies & fruits and water.  I'm seeing my doctor in a few days to see what she says.
