OPK question

Hey Ladies,

So on cycle number 2 I will be using OPK, but I have some questions

-When would be the best time to use, morning, afternoon, evening?

-Should I tempt 2x a day, am and pm?

-On what cycle day are you tempting?

And just to be sure, when I get a smiley it means, I should be expecting to ovulate within the next 12-36 hours?

TIA!

I usually start doing the OPK's about 3-4 days before I expect to O and do them twice a day, morning and evening. If you are temping it is and everyday, first thing in the morning thing. Before you move or get up to pee or drink anything. That is your basal body temp and the best way to tell that you did infact ovulate. It wont predict O but will confirm afterward. I keep my thermometer on my nightstand ready to go so I just have to hit the button and pop it in my mouth when I wake up. The digital opk's are great but can get kind of expensive. I use the wondfo brand that you can buy in bulk on amazon and just use the digi's when I think I'm getting close. Once you get that positive Ovulation should occur within 12-36 hours. It can take a few cycles to get the hang of but kind of becomes second nature after awhile. Good luck

Great questions MKC.

Follow up, if you O within 12-36 hours of a positive OPK, when is the best time to DTD?

Thanks Kw!! I bought the digital smiley opks, so testing 2x a week might be too much, if I test at 2pm everyday could I miss my surge???

@nicole I have read that once you test a positive opk to BD that same day and the next 4-5 days, some say everyday others every other day, not sure though.

Another question. My AF still hasn't come, I am guessing the depo shot has made me so irregular, I am on cycle day 34, since this is my longest cycle ever on what day after I get Af should I start testing using opk???

Thanks again ladies ;)

@Nicole - I normally do the same day and the next (if possible), if not I will the same day and then two days after that. I hear different things, from every day to every other... but DH and I do what we can ;) Every dayfor a week straight is super hard, and we tried that once and failed, it was too hard for us.

@MKCalderon - Do you know when you normally ovulate??? I normally don't start using my OPKs until the week I know I should be ovulating. For exampled, I don't ovulate until around CD 16-21... so when my period is done on CD 4 or 5 I'm not going to start taking my OPKs until CD 16.... but if you ovulate around CD14 then I would start on CD 10... just because OPKs (depending on the brand) are a little more expensive, I only start them the week I know I'll be ovulating.

If it helps....I wasn't using OPKs, but based on my chart we BD on CD10 and CD13 and I O'd on CD14.....

So we BD when the day before I probably would have surged and then 48 hours after I would have surged....O'd the next day, the rest is history!

The depo shot can take a while to get out of your system. I took it years ago and it took me about 5 months to get a period again. When you do get it I would start testing around CD 10 on the first cycle until you see when about you ovulate. Remember the opk's just detect the surge, they do not guarantee ovulation. Temping or blood tests are the only way to confirm.

It's just so confusing to me when we should BD, but your tips are helping! I'll probably learn more once we really start TTC and get into some sort of a groove.

@nicole: we usually BD every other day for a week before O and until my temp confirms O. We might throw one extra round in when I get the smiley face if it's on an off day. Of course it also depends on my work schedule but we try to stick to it as close as possible

Ok, I must confess, I get a little apprehensive seeing all this stuff. Because,it seems like a lot to know, a lot to do and Im caught in the middle of it all since we started officially TTC this month. So confused.

It seems overwhelming at first but it doesn't take long for it to become second nature
