Question About Clear Blue Advanced Digital OPK

On June 18th I had a laparoscopy to remove a large ovarian cyst. My LMP was June 1st before that. On the 26th, I started spotting and bleeding the following day so AF came a week early. My cycles are usually 30-32 days or so. I spoke with my obgyn's RN and she said that the surgery basically really messes with your hormones and I may be "screwed up" next month, too. Well, AF wasn't really any shorter or different than usually, but out of curiosity I began OPK testing (first month with the advanced Clear Blue digi) on CD7 just bc my cycle was shorter to see if O is even detected this cycle. Well, I got the flashing symbol (high detection, but not peak) on the 6th/CD11. I've been testing everyday since, expecting the peak (non-flashing smiley face) and I've just been getting the flashing face the last 4 days! I just took a test again this morning and it was still flashing. Does that mean it's basically only detecting a surge in estrogen the last 4 days, but not LH yet, so no O? I'm hoping to get a +OPK this month, and we've been BD the last few days, but I know it's possible I may not O this month due to the surgery "throwing stuff off". Ugh. I'm basically wondering if that's how you'd interpret all the flashing smileys. Shouldn't I have gotten a peak by now? Also, I'm not temping, which I know is the only sure way to know if I O or not.

Hey Lex,

I used those same OPK, and I only got the smiley flashy face for one day and the next I got my steady smiley face, I did read about others that did experience the same thing you are, just continue to test and be sure to test using FMU, the test is sensitive enough to detect an LH surge with your FMU.

Thank you! I will just keep testing. Technially, I usually O CD15-17 so I'm not past my usual window of time yet. Just seemed odd to have a high period for 4 days prior. Also, from my understanding even speaking with my dr about worst case scenario having to remove my ovary (which they didn't) the other ovary would pick up the slack so I should be ovulating irregardlessof the surgery, you know? I'll just keep hoping for the steady face tomorrow or the next day hopefully :)

This test is starting to annoy me. Lol Another flashing smiley face today. I did find a couple other threads on other sites of women who have had the same issue. One woman had flashing smileys for 21 days!! It actually seems to be more common than not (unless those just happen to be the majority of people commenting) that have more than the 2 flashing symbols the test leads you to believe you'll get. There isn't even anything in the question section of the test pamphlet that addresses more than 2 flashing smileys in a row. I only have 3 tests left, and that thing is expensive! Maybe I'll go back to the regular Clear Blue Digi and test later in the day too and see if that one coincides with the Advanced. Hmm

Just wanted to follow up if anyone else is using the Advanced OPK... I got 8 days of blinking smiley faces for high fertility, then a totally negative empty face, then all on the same day (yesterday) an empty face in the morning. I was thinking I had missed my surge with just testing with the advanced in the morning so I bought one of the regular clearblues with the lines and took a test yesterday afternoon and got 2 lines! I double checked it with the Advanced (even though it says to only test in the morning) and I finally got a solid smiley! Yeesh, so moral of the story... keep testing until you get a positive or until AF shows up. This test says nowhere in the brouchure that you could have multiple blinking faces and negatives etc, but I'm glad I kept testing anyway otherwise I could've missed it! We BD'ed twice last night, but of course today DH works 8-5 and I work 1-9 so we won't be able to again until much later tonight. I had a feeling (well, increased wetness TMI) so I felt I should test yesterday in the afternoon despite the negative test in the morning.

Wow! At least, all is well that ends well. Your persistence really paid off.
