Short/Light AF

Even though AF has been arriving on time every month, I'm a bit worried that she isn't as regular as I thought. My pas 3 cycles have been light, 3 days at most. This visit started Tuesday and was over Thursday morning, though I was surprised to see brownish spotting today since there was nothing at all yesterday.

I Googled it a bit and it might have to do with my working out. I got back into working out in January this year and since, I've dropped about 13lbs and I've gained some awesome muscle. I just finished Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred and I've been running, yoga, and abs on top of Shred. I started P90X yesterday. I'm in the best shape I've been in since I started dating DH and I don't want to stop working out, I'm enjoying it and feel so accomplished.

I'm wondering how or if this affects my ovulation/fertility? Maybe it's not even the working out and it's something else? I came off the pill in March. Thoughts?

Are you used to having longer periods? Because I know if they are always short but come on schedule, it is perfectly fine. Mine are always two full days at most and then one or two days of spotting/light bleeding. If they are usually long and are now short, it might be affected by working out but I can't say for sure. I think with age they can also get shorter. Sorry I can't be more helpful, I would say maybe ask your doctor next time you go in?

Yea, I would say they used to be about 4 days while I was on BCP where now it's about 2. They weren't overly heavy, I would use reg. tampons. But, def heavier than the last few months. I wish I had a Dr. Appointment coming up, but I've done my yearly checkups already this year. I guess I could always call? Or just wait and see. TY Dennys for replying, I'm hoping like yours that it's norm.

It might have something to do with you coming off the pill. When I first came off last July, mine were super short and light for the first several months (and my cycle length varied more than it ever used to). Now that I've been off for almost a year, they have slooooowly gotten more regular, longer and a bit heavier, with more days of spotting afterward. I'd say it's probably your body regulating to the hormone change, with the high level of exercise compounding the issue. But definitely call your doctor if you're worried. HTH!

My AF changed with age - when I first started getting visits from AF when I was 14 they were super heavy and 8 days long (it was ridiculous).  Even after going on BCP to try to regulate them they were 7 days long.  About the time I turned 25 they shortened to 5 days, then I would say when I hit 30 they dropped to 3 days.  I was afraid that when I stopped taking BCP they would come back with a vengence, but they stayed at 3 days (occasionally I'd have a day with nothing, like you did, then brown spotting for a day).

I'm guessing that its just your body, and the stopping BCP and the shorter/lighter AF was a coincidence.

Thanks ladies, you really do know how to calm a girl down! I'm thinking from your advice that I'll try not to freak just yet and let my body balance itself with coming off BC, age, working out. I'm thinking I'll get a better grasp in July when we first TTC and I try OPKs

Nic, I know I'm late responding here, but just wanted to cosign on to what Claire said. My experience has been very similar in the last few years...length of period getting shorter and lighter with age, esp after going off BC. I kept waiting for them to get long again, but they never did (I was off BC about 10 months before TTC.) The lighter ones are quite nice! Lol
