Short luteal phase?

Hi all! Hope you had a good weekend!

I kind of got myself all worried for a little bit over the weekend (the internet can be a scary place!), finding out more about short luteal phases. Last month was my first full cycle off of birth control and my luteal phase was about 12 days (I got a positive OPK on CD 18). I o'ed pretty late in my cycle again this month (got my positive OPK on day 19), which worries me that I'm going to have a short luteal phase. I know "typical" is 14 days, and I was reading that 10 is essential to sustaining pregnancy and anything below 12 can be worrisome, with increased chance of miscarriage, etc. Trying not to stress too much.. we'll see how this month goes.

Do any of you have experience with this?

Jenny, I'm not at home but I will post a link for you later about this. Are you temping? An OPK does not tell you if you O'd. Only if you had an LH surge which does not guarantee an O.

I have a short LP - it varies between 10 to 12 days, mostly it is 11 days.

I had a successful pregnancy :) my LP was 11 days with my son, I got my BFP 10 DPO, 1 day before my AF with a FRER.

Ditto Claire - are you temping?

Last cycle was my first cycle temping and I had a 11 day LP.  Not bad, not worrisome, but not stellar either.  I started taking a B6 50mg supplement daily (I don't want to take too high a dose since my LP wasn't that short).  Just to be safe.  It's also said to be good for morning sickness, so I figure might as well get in the habit of a small dose now that will also be good while I'm PG.

Also keep in mind not every cycle is the same, so one wacky month isn't the sign of a bad trend starting :-)

@Claire - that would be so helpful, thank you! I'm not temping right now, but may begin soon. I've been doing the OPKs and observing my CM...so far I've had EWCM both times around when I got my OPK, which I know isn't a guarantee of anything but a good sign never the less, I suppose.

@Prinncess - it's a relief to hear your success story. :) thank you!!

@athena - thanks! i did read about taking a B6 supplement for a shorter LP and would like to start doing so, as well. definitely trying to keep in mind that each cycle can be different, and trying not to let my worrisome mind phase me. ;)

@ Jenny - this is only my second cycle off BCP so I'm still learning a lot, but I think a bunch of things combined (temping, OPKs, CM, etc) will help create the big picture.  I think that big picture will either lead to success or help identify any "issues".  Which to me creates less stress - I told DH if I have any problems I want to say "this is everything I've done, so now help".  Last cycle was my first, but I could visibly see my temp rise from O and temp drop the day before AF came (with vengeance LOL).  If you're up to waking up at the same time every day for a temp check, I'd highly recommend it :-)

that's great advice, athena! we're on the same schedule so far... i'm on cycle 2 off of BC, also (but only the first cycle trying). :) totally agree with the more you know, the less you stress theory!

I had a short LP as well, it was usually around 10 days.  I started taking a B6 vitamin every day to help and after 2 cycles of doing that, we got our BFP.

@princessjen... quick follow up question! since you too have a shorter LP, did you have a lot of signs of pregnancy before you got your BFP?

Nope - not a 1!  I actually only tested to "get it over with" because I was so sure I was not pregnant and surprise!  I did however once I got my BFP start getting the sore boobs and pulling cramps, probably 2 to 3 days after the BFP.

So good to know - thank you!! I didn't want to be stressing myself out every cycle if I don't feel any "symptoms" before a BFP or BFN. Thanks again! :)

That is one of the crappy things about TTC - AF and pregnancy symptoms are SO simiiar.  When I got my BFP I swore I wasn't and the months that we were actively trying I swore I was.

Try not to stress out and just try to have fun making a baby :)
