Tea?!

Lovelies!

I was wondering what were your thoughts about tea while TTC/pregnancy.

I read a lot of contradictory informations about this and I don't know what to think anymore. Some places it says that drinking tea is good for fertility while others say it's as bad as coffee and the less is the better...huh!

With our previous history of EP and DH's little brother having a congenital heart defect, I don't want to take any chance on something that might increase the risk of complications. Still, I don't want to stop living my life because of this baby project. So, I cut my coffee/alcool intakes from the moment I O' to the moment where AF shows (if so!). But do I have to cut tea too? This chaï latte was so tempting this morning that I couldn't resist (ok...I didn't O yet so it's not that bad!!!).

Are you still drinking tea while TCC and during pregnancy (I know they say a cup per day is fine...)?

I hate coffee and only drink tea - I LOVE black tea, white tea, red tea, green tea....LOVE it!  That said, I gave up ALL caffeine while trying to prepare for TTC.  I miss it so much!  There are still some herbal teas that I drink, but I avoid caffeine completely.

I read a study that showed that going off caffeine cold turkey can cause stress on the body that may not be good for someone trying to get pregnant.  If you are going to indulge in one cup a day, I would recommend not quitting for part of the month - just make sure you stick to only one a day, it will be less stressful on your body.  HTH!

I love tea, too!

I have been drinking decaf tea for the last couple months, since I didn't think I would be able to quit cold turkey. I went to a nutrition class last week, and the doctor said decaf teas were fine, as well as some herbal teas. I was relieved to hear that, because I don't think I could have given it up entirely!

Not all herbal teas are safe...

I drank my normal amounts of coffee the entire time while TTC...and up to 12 weeks pregnant...now I only drink 1 cup of half-caf a day...29 weeks pregnant now!

Yes, ditto Jackie! Sorry if that wasn't clear. I can't remember which ones are safe, but I do remember it was not all of them. (I don't drink herbal teas so I kind of tuned that part out!)

There are so teas that are bad for you out there. I'd go to the library and research which ones...maybe ask your doctor.

I drink one cup of either regular coffee or black tea most mornings. Like you said, the majority of the reasearch I've come across says one cup a day is fine:) And without it, I'm pretty sure I'd be snoozing on my desk by noon. Lol.
