When Should We Start TTC?

Hi gals!

Feels good to be posting on PW. I've been married for about 2.5 years and was a very active member when planning my wedding. I've taken a little break from PW, but wanted to post on here since DH and I are starting to think about TTC. YAY!!! I am so excited!

My question for all of you is this: we're going on a cruise to Alaska in mid-Juky, but would like to start trying in June. Do you think we should wait until after the cruise to start trying? I certainly don't want to be sick on the cruise, but I'm also anxious to get going. I wanna be a Momma!!

Thanks for any feedback you can give! Hope everyone is doing great!

i kind of agree with athena. but then on the other side, i think you should just enjoy your first time ttcing without putting too much pressure on the two of you. of course a healthy lifestyle is always best for your body and making changes in this direction when you want to start ttc is always good. i don't know if you want to start charting, taking your temperature, okping etc. already know... it takes a lot off the fun of ttcing. but this is a question of personality.

if i were you, i would go on and start in june. it is very rare that you get your bfp on your first try. and vacations help a lot (i know, it helped us twice to get our bfp).

so this being said, welcome here and i wish you a quick and easy ttc journey!

First of all welcome back to PW, glad to see you here and second, welcome to the group!

What youandme said is true for most. Some are lucky and get their BFP on the first try/first few tries. It all depends on many different factors but I hope your TTC journey is a short one. That said, I would certainly start TTC in June, do what works for you and your DH, and enjoy your cruise! Who knows - you could even get your BFP while on your cruise.

My DH and I started our TTC journey by not charting/temping and had the mentality that it'll happen when it happens. Then a couple months later, I started temping just to get a better idea of what was going on my body. We got our a BFP a month after I started temping. :)

Hi Ajava!  My DH and I are going on an Alaskan cruise in May...so excited!!!  We are on a TTC break right now (much needed) and will TTC again after the cruise.  Do you have any excursions planned?  We are doing a private glacier hike and ice climb and if we were TTC right now I wouldn't consider doing that excursion.

@October--Yay for Alaskan cruises.  Right now we only have one excursion planned (a helicopter ride to a glacier and dog sledding) and that's perfectly safe for a pregnant woman.  We're planning the rest of the excursions soon and I'm thinking that if we decide we're going to try before we leave that I'll just make sure I keep the excursions safe (no glacier hike for me). Enjoy your trip! I've heard such wonderful things about Alaskan cruises!

leese33 - my doctor and several ladies here recommended that I read Taking Control of Your Fertility - it explains so much of the temping and OPK questions.  If  you sign up for FertiltyFriend online it also has videos that are great tutorials.  Start there.  As for herbal supplements - as I posted in another thread - I think this is something you should discuss with your doctor since your situation is a little different and your medical history is not something I would want to make a recommendation on - just because I would rather you be safe than get advice from someone who doesn't know the whole picture =)
