I absolutely LOVE Thanksgiving!
Who's cooking? What's on the menu?
ohh I'm cooking!
Turkey (I'm trying a brine this year)
Mac and cheese
maple glazed carrots
My mom does the pies because I am no baker! Lol
I'm not sure about my apps yet.
How about you?
We're hosting it (I live at home lol). But, my mom and I do all the cooking together. She's actually more laid back than I am about this stuff so I came up with our menu.
Cream Cheese Mashed Potatoes
Mac & Cheese
Corn on the cob
Pastichio (we're Greek so you have to throw it at least one Greek dish lol)
I'm also making a pumpkin banana mousse pie for dessert. My aunts are bringing other desserts. Apps will probably be standard-- cheese/crackers, veggies/dip, spanakopitas, tiropitas, baked brie, mini quiche.
all that sounds DELISH!
niki - brining the turkey makes it so delish! you will never go back!!!!!
mrs.pris - what is pastichio?
Pastichio is a greek lasagna (no red sauce)
Ohhh Mrs.Pristouris what is your recipe? Do you have any special tips? I should make this too since we are having FIs family over.
Grandma AND my mom!!! I get two Thanksgivings.. woohoo!
I'm helping with some dishes for mom's Thanksgiving.. I'll be making sweet yam casserole and green been casserole.
My Grandma does EVERYTHING though.. she's italian so we always have an antipasta in the afternoon and then the big ole turkey dinner in the evening. Both she and mom have pretty much the same menu:
Turkey w/ Homemade Gravy
Homemade Cranberry Sauce
Sweet Potato Casserole w/ little marshmellows ontop (my fav!)
Breaded and fried Cauliflower (YUM!)
Green Bean Casserole
SOOOO ready to pull out the elastic pants!!!!!!!!!
ETA: Forgot dessert! I'm famous for my iced pumpkin cookies, so I'm making those. And we're also having pumpkin and apple pie.. mmm!
My sister is hosting Thanksgiving this year but we all split up the cooking. I'm making green bean casserole, glazed carrots, yorkshire pudding (DH's only request), and a chocolate trifle for dessert. Yum! Can't wait!
Yum Yum Yams
Marbled Mashed Potatoes (a mix of sweet mashed, and regular mashed- we were supposed to have these for our wedding, but I changed to pasta. The only way DH would let this happen is if I promised to make them for him! LOL)
Cheese and Garlic Scones
Niki80- I have my grandma's recipe and it's DELICIOUS!! I will PM it to you :)
Your the best! Thanks!
All of our family is out of town, so it will just be DH and I this Thanksgiving. He works Thanksgiving Day and will miss out on the big meal, so we are doing a breakfast instead...
So far I am thinking..
Sausage and Grit Casserole
I miss having all of the Thanksgiving staples, but I will be the only one eating it and I can't justify making all of that food just for me!
DH and i are cooking for his parents (and possibly his cousin and two nephews), but even though it's a small gathering, we cook a lot because we love the leftovers!!!
we usually cook a big turkey, but DH has been so curious about Turducken, so we decided to order one this year from http://www.cajungrocer.com/. so excited for that!!!
and then we'll cook sides:
garlic rosemary mashed potatoes
green bean casserole
broccoli and cheddar mac and cheese
and for dessert, pumpkin cheesecake!
Me and the hubby are stuck far from home for Thanksgiving so we're cooking our own little meal. I've never cooked the meal before so I'm trying to keep it pretty traditional.
-Green Bean Casserole
-Sweet Potato Hash
-Carmel Apple Pie
