Turkey vs. Crock Pot?

I am hosting Christmas Eve this year and decided to make a ham and a turkey.

I have a 6 quart oval crock pot.  I know I want to cook the turkey in here... We were thinking of getting a Jennie O turkey but are unsure on how many pounds will fit in there comfortably?  I read 9.5 lbs would be tight, but that seems like A LOT!  I guess I just can't imagine that fitting in a 6 quart pot.

We were thinking of doing a 5 pounder.

Does anyone know?

Misshammy! Guess who popped in?! :)

I cooked a chicken in the crock last week and it was amazing. Sooo tender. I would just google the "rules" on it. I can't remember how much my chicken weighed. The reciped didn't call for any liquid but I put some in anyway, didn't need it!

Awesome!!!  THANK YOU, SHESH!! :)

(I MISS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I know the tricks... My coworker told me to make a little checkered "base" out of aluminum foil for the turkey to brown all over.  (two vertical and two horizontal) and place the turkey on top.

Then she just added salt and pepper and maybe garlic powder.. Not much at all because of the gravy :)

I'm stoked to make it!!

I did find out that a 5 pounder would fit nicely in my 6 quart crock pot, but I just didn't know!! :)

Wow- that sounds delish.

I miss you too! I've been soooooooo busy that I never pop back in here. Plus I am the one bride who is stick-a-fork-in-me-can't-be-bothered-with-wedding-details-anymore. :( sucks, I was hoping to still stay busy with it. But the magazine is enough!
