My Fiancé and I laugh because we tell everyone we are getting married for all the right reasons, we are in love and broke. Some people have asked us why we don't wait and save up money for the wedding but in reality the wedding is not defined by how much money you spend but by how much love, dedication and family is involved.
The first way we decided to save money was to have the reception in the backyard. Our ceremony is at a very nice location but the reception will be at our own house. Our reception will be held in our backyard. This is not a backyard reception filled with plastic cups, paper napkins and benches...this is a reception in a backyard filled with lights, dance floors and decorations. Another way we saved on money is by having my Fiancé’s father cook for us. He is an amazing cook and knows how to cook for a large amount of people. Our cake will still be from a bakery but with the help of project wedding, one was found within our price range.
The photography will be done by a friend who is an inspiring photographer; she has never done a wedding but wants to get in on the wedding business... so we are her first wedding so she will be doing the whole day, plus touch ups and digital print for $400.00 which is amazing. I know she will do an amazing job not only because she is good but because we will be on her website, selling her work.
Other ways we have saved money is by Do-it-yourself projects. Our wedding invitations were all hand made by my fiancé, me and a bridesmaid... took us a few nights along with a few glasses of wine but they came out perfect. I have also made the centerpieces consisting of candles and sand for a beachy theme... not using flowers saved a lot of money plus amazon.com has great prices on decorations. Our music will be from a borrowed PA system and an ipod with our premade playlist along with music from family... just about everyone plays the guitar within my family, so everyone is taking turns playing a song. Adds a very personal touch as well.
The last way we saved money was on my dress, I found the dress I loved in stores then searched and searched online to buy a used one... getting it for half the price of what it cost! My shoes were simple and bought on sale. Our wedding is planned for August 21st, 2010 and I have no doubt it will be beautiful even on a small budget.
