Norfolk Wedding

Norfolk Wedding

Home to the world’s largest naval base, as well as the historic and cultural hub of Hampton Roads, Norfolk is a bustling city with plenty to offer to couples who are planning a wedding.  From elegant museums to magnificent gardens to breathtaking views of Norfolk Harbor, there are many possibilities for a beautiful Norfolk wedding.

Norfolk Wedding Planning: City Highlights

Brides-to-be will find inspiration at every corner as they plan their Norfolk wedding.  Visit the historic Ghent district to browse antique and specialty shops that may offer ideas for gifts or bridal accessories.  Ghent is also the location of the nationally acclaimed Chrysler Museum of Art, a popular venue for Norfolk weddings and receptions.

In downtown Norfolk, Waterside Festival Marketplace boasts some of the city’s best food and hottest nightlife – a great place to gain insight on local DJs and possible caterers.  Nearby Town Point Park hosts a variety of festivals and events throughout the year that may also provide you with entertainment and catering options for your wedding.

Other points of interest in Norfolk include the Virginia Zoological Park (where visitors can see the endangered Siberian tiger), the Norfolk Botanical Garden, Harbor Park (where the Norfolk Tides baseball team hosts their home games), and the Norfolk Scope indoor arena.  Norfolk Scope is the location for a variety of events, including home games for the Norfolk Admirals hockey players.

Norfolk Wedding Planning: Weather Considerations

If you’re dreaming of an outdoor wedding, keep in mind that it can be quite hot and humid during the peak of summer.  This weather combination can create problems for your food, your flowers, and some of your guests.  Frequent and sudden rain showers are also common during the summer months.  Consider planning your wedding in late spring or early fall to enjoy the best temperatures, but still remember to have a backup plan in case of rain.

Tips for a Perfect Norfolk Wedding

With four universities, two major sports teams, and an assortment of annual celebrations, Norfolk attracts visitors and tourists throughout the year.  Before you set your Norfolk wedding date, consult a local events calendar.  Festivals, the beginning of the school year, and some sporting events can cause hotel rooms and venues to be completely booked.  You should also keep in mind the summer tourist season in neighboring Virginia Beach, which causes an increase in lodging and vendor rates.
