Honeymoon Travel

After saying "I do," couples want to escape to a romantic paradise and revel in newlywed bliss. When planning your honeymoon, consider these travel tips and make your getaway as stress-free as possible.

Honeymoon Travel Tip #1: Reserve Early

As soon as you've secured dates, start booking hotels and transportation. The sooner you do this, the greater the chance you'll get what you want. Most hotels are flexible if you need to adapt your plans later on. Compare prices on various sites and with various travel agents; the more time you have, the better your odds of finding a great deal. As you book, tell everyone you connect with that you're travelling as a honeymooner; you may receive special treatment or upgrades for being a newlywed.

Honeymoon Travel Tip #2: Passports and Paperwork

Do your research early and investigate as to what paperwork is needed to ensure a seamless travel experience. The sooner you apply for visas and passports, the better; if there are problems or delays, you can have them sorted out long before your big day. Also investigate into needed and recommended vaccinations. Once you have your paperwork in order, make copies; if your ID goes missing, a copy will help you with a faster recovery process.

Honeymoon Travel Tip #3: Lists, Lists, Lists

Make a master packing list that will keep you organized. As your wedding day approaches, you won't have to worry if you've forgotten anything. Also make sure you have a phone list of emergency contact numbers to bring with you, as well as your honeymoon itinerary.

Honeymoon Travel Tip #4: Leave an Itinerary

Let a friend or family member know where you're going to be and how to contact you in case of emergency. Leave behind an itinerary that includes hotel numbers, your email address, and any details that will make you easily accessible if something goes wrong. Keep a copy of that same itinerary in your suitcase and be sure to bring emergency contact information with you. While you'll establish that you don't want to be disturbed when away, it will put you at ease knowing that you won't be left out of the loop should something important arise.

Honeymoon Travel Tip #5: Insurance

Consider purchasing travel insurance that will cover cancellations, lost baggage, delays and unforeseen interruptions in plans. Look into your health insurance plan to insure that you're covered while away.

Honeymoon Travel Tip #6: Carry-On

Keep your valuables in your carry-on. Cameras, phone cards, memory sticks and important medications should stay with you, if possible. Also try to pack an extra outfit, too, as a precaution against lost luggage. Wearing comfortable shoes on the flight will ensure that your feet will be okay if your checked bags don't arrive with you. Take a snapshot of your luggage before you check it; you'll save time filling out lost-baggage forms this way.

Honeymoon Travel Tip #7: Pack Light

Pack efficiently, leaving room for souvenirs and destination shopping. Consider picking up thank-you items for your bridal party and family members who were integral in making your special day unforgettable.
