What to Wear at Your Rehearsal

You've spent months deciding on a wedding dress, now the big day is right around the corner and you're faced with another wardrobe decision - what to wear at your rehearsal.  You're practicing for one of the most important days of your life so you want to look your best.  You also want the rest of your guests to look great and feel comfortable, so there are a few things you should consider.


Defining the Wedding Rehearsal


The rehearsal dinner is the main attraction of the wedding rehearsal and is traditionally hosted by your fiancé's parents.  The location and theme for the dinner will play a major role in what you should wear to the rehearsal.  If you're not planning your own rehearsal, consult with your future in-laws for details on the event.  Give yourself plenty of time to choose your attire and remember to pass along the details to the rest of your bridal party as well.


A Formal Affair


Formal or semi-formal rehearsal dinners are a terrific opportunity to honor your mother by wearing her wedding gown, but may be a bit trickier for the rest of your bridal party.  Suits and ties are appropriate for the guys, while the girls usually wear evening gowns - old prom or bridesmaids' dresses work well.  Formal rehearsal dinners typically take place in a fine restaurant or may be catered at another location.


The Casual Dinner


Because weddings are such formal (and stressful) events, many couples prefer a more casual, laidback rehearsal.  Most rehearsal dinners are held at a nice restaurant or in a private home, calling for a dressy pantsuit or cute summer dress.  Your fiancé would be fine in a pair of khakis and a button-down shirt.   


Some rehearsal dinners are even more informal - backyard barbecues, poolside cookouts, and afternoon picnics are all possibilities.  Blue jeans, shorts, and even swimsuits are appropriate at these events.


Whatever you wear to your rehearsal, be sure you feel comfortable so you can enjoy yourself and relax before your big day.  Formal, casual, or somewhere in between - the rehearsal is a time to have fun in the company of family and friends.
