the best eyeshadow shade for your eye color

The easiest way to enhance your natural beauty? Being sure your makeup properly matches your coloring! Read on for the shades that most complement brown, blue, green, and hazel eyes.

Brown Eyes
Brown eyes look best with rich shades of violet—the cool blue undertones enhance their natural warmth. For violet eyeliner, we like NARS Larger Than Life Eyeliner in Bourbon Street.  If a deep purple shadow sounds too dramatic for your taste, sweep an eyeshadow in a neutral shade of pink on your lids and use a pencil in dark purple to line your eyes instead. Brown-eyed girls with gold flecks can pull off bronze and gold shadows, but keep the shades light and metallic (darker colors may appear muddy).

Blue Eyes
Eye shadow in shades of ashy brown and sienna naturally complement blue eyes. Whether you opt to go metallic or matte, soft shades of brown work best with blue eyes—especially ashier tans and sienna. Don’t shy away from blue, either! Matching your eye color to your makeup was a big no-no in the past, but if you stick to a soft liner in ocean blue,it’ll look fresh and modern instead. Try Jordana’s Easyliner in Bliss

Green Eyes
Remember the art class color wheel? It taught us that the natural complement to green is red. For a romantic look, try a purple with a red undertone—we like Almay’s Intense i-color in Raisin Quartz. Want to go more neutral? The warmer undertones of taupe will be more flattering than ashy brown.

Hazel Eyes
Because hazel eyes are a combination of golds, greens, and browns, girls with this eye color will look good in many different palettes. To make them appear lighter, go with the blackest black eyeliner you can find—we like  L’oreal’s Infallible Never Fail Eyeliner in Carbon Black. Thinking about a more sultry look? Try a smokey grey. Finally, to brighten hazel eyes apply shades of gold and bone on the inner corner of your eyes and sweep a wash of light brown or forest green across your lids.
