Corks are a very inexpensive way to add some wine country character whether you're in the heart of beautiful wine country or not. Collect corks by saving your own or enlist the help of friends and family. You can also try asking local restaurants/bars to save corks for you.
Place Cards (see below for more information)
Xacto knife and plenty replacement blades
Cutting mat (or a safe surface to cut on)
Instructions: ***Use Caution and Patience*** In order for the cork to lat flat on its side, slice just a sliver off one side of the cork. Then carefully slice a slit into the opposite side of the cork for the place card to slide in.
**Tip: Change the blade frequently to ensure its sharpness and cutting precision. Pull the blade across the cork with firm pressure. Repeat until you've made your through slice. The key is NOT to try and cut in ONE pass. Take your time. Watch, or should I say, listen to a movie while doing this project.
Place Cards: I designed them using Microsoft Publisher and then uploaded the design to www.VistaPrint.com using their business card layout guidelines. Print the Guests' names and table numbers on clear labels. Apply the labels to the place cards. Lastly, slide the place cards into cork holders.
