My fiance and I met on Long Beach Island, New Jersey, so we knew the shore would be an ideal place to get married. However, our budget disagreed. Our parents were very supportive, and we lucked out because we had a 15 month engagement, but no matter what, we weren't able to find the funds. My fiance, a former chef, got his start in LBI working for a small restaurant. Lo and behold, the restaurant owner started a catering business, and they needed servers and a cook. Lightbulb! I would rather work off a payment than put money out, so that's what we did. We worked with our caterer as a server and a chef. There were so many benefits to this situation! We got to know our venue and the staff that would be working for our wedding. We had the opportunity to chip away at our reception by working these events. We got to acquainted with so many great people. The list goes on. On top of that, I worked for a local flower shop to continue to pay for the wedding. I have an amazing boss who is thoughtful and consider. She helped me evaluate my flower order and even offered to ship peonies in from Holland because she knew how much I liked them. I could not have asked for better experiences planning my wedding! To ice this cake, we came in exactly at our budget...with enough to tip all of our amazing vendors!
